Good Afternoon Everyone,
Charger Fan has provided the DWF scans of a 1969 GunWorld article about the then new Dan Wesson revolver. (Thanks CF!) Below are the comments CF provided along with the scans. Let the discussion begin!
This article shows Dan & employee Fred Haines testing out "X-1"...the first prototype DW revolver (they may even have X-2 also in one photo, but nothing is mentioned). I've noticed there are a bunch of things with these prototypes that did't make it into the production revolvers.
1) The side plate is on the right side & held by three allen screws.
2) The rear sight is lower profile & windage adjustable only.
3) The front sight is elevation adjustable.
4) Boxy appearing "DWA" logo on left side of frame.
5) Barrel wrench is a different style.

You're welcome, I'm excited to be able to share this with the
There's a few previously unknown (or more like long forgotten) things about this prototype gun, that are very interesting. I'm curious as to why the side plate was moved from the right side, to the left, on the production guns. I wonder if that was because S&W's are on the right & Dan decided to not carry on that tradition?
And the adjustable front sight...I wonder if they had reliability issues somehow, with the adjustment part of the design?
Man, would I love to get my hands on one of those "X" series prototypes!

You're darned right, there wasn't any way I was letting this one go, if I could help it.
You know, this thought struck me this morning...I'm surprised they didn't have the side plate location decided upon on paper, before the first "X" was even made. That part I find odd, hopefully one day we find the answer to such questions.
