It looks like you have the Pachmayr Gripper grips, which I like a lot and are no longer in production.
It's great to have an LEO here. It seems that a surprising (to me) number of LEO's are not shooters. In conversation with them I seem to find that about 80% are not much interested in shooting beyond what they do for work.
It's a sad truth that many LEO's aren't interested in shooting on their own time. Some officers look at it as “work.” One of my duties at the department is Range Officer so I assist in annual qualifications and training. It's a fantastic extra duty and I really get a kick out of it. Due to the ammo crunch and budget constraints I don't get to do much shooting on the deptartment's dime these days, but I still manage a little here and there. I also have 24/7 access to the indoor range, which is nice.
I really need a wrench for my 15-2 so I can adjust the barrel gap and tighten the shroud. We need some range time to get acquainted. I appreciate the help and kind words.

I hate to add to the mystery but my "SD" serial numbered, Monson 715 bought used in the mid eighties has the same cylinder configuration as the Palmer pic . The plot thickens.

S&W did away with pinned barrels & recessed chambers in '81 or '82 or thereabouts. Since they weren't about to throw stuff away they used up what stock they had, so you'll see Magnums from that time frame that are "pinned not recessed" or "recessed not pinned."
Wonder if DW did something similar or someone came across a batch of the Palmer cylinders or maybe something else? Too bad DW didn't have a Roy Jinks type jotting down everything. 😉
Another possibility is that the cylinder was replaced at some time for whatever reason.
