i have a 357 supermag (monson 10" VH) that has a sticking firing pin. i read on another forum, that this was somewhat common problem and an easy fix. First step is to remove the firing pin retaining roll pin and then to remove the firing pin. i have not been able to get the firing pin out. the diagrams i have found online, appear to show that the firing pin, spring and bushing appear to come out towards the barrel. i have tapped it moderately with a brass punch but cant seem to get to move. is there something else i am missing? Is the Bushing press fit? thanks

Don I don't think that is correct. I believe when the drift pin comes out then firing pin and spring come out toward hammer. like the small frames. I may be wrong cause I don't actually own a lg frame myself. Some of these other guys will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong. Just hang on til they make their rounds.
see thats what I get for opening my mouth...lol maybe I better stay off the lr frame forums....til I own one.

Don, I recently had my DW 44 apart but didn't remove the firing pin. I do have an old G&A mag with an article on the revolver by Bob Milek. It has a description of the take down procedure. As for the firing pin it is exactly as you have done and comes out the front. He stated the bushing was a close tolerance tight fit and only should be removed for replacement of the firing pin or a broken spring. I'd think this means it's close to a 'press fit' and would require some force to remove the bushing, allowing the fp and spring removal. Over time and firing, the heat cycles may make it something of a problem to remove. Perhaps let it soak with Kroil oil and then try to tap it out? Pure conjecture as I've never removed one. Hope this was of some help.
The article I referenced, I believe is somewhere on this site, but I couldn't find it with a short search.

From Guns & Ammo CENTERFIRE REVOLVERS, TROUBLESHOOTING AND TUNING, by Bob Milek:
DISASSEMBLY OF THE DAN WESON .44:
FRAME DISASSEMBLY:
"3. Using a roll pin punch of the proper size, drive out the firing pin retaining pin, then remove the firing pin bushing, spring and firing pin out the front. Note: This is not recommended unless absolutely necessary because of the extremely close-tolerance fit of the firing pin bushing in he standing breech. As I see it, the only time this operation is required is if the firing pin or the firing pin spring is broken and must be replaced."

thanks guys, i did previously find all that info, i guess i just was looking for someone who had actually done the work. i had the firing pin stuck three times in 12 shots last weekend, and read that there could be a burr on the inside of the bushing, that was easily removed and would eliminate any chance of it reoccurring. i tapped on it soundly but not overly aggressive, and it didn't budge. its soaking in Kroil, and hopefully that frees it up.
