Recently got the chance to pick up a .44, 8 inch barrel for a good price.  The gun had a scope mounted on it, and someone had removed the rear sight.  This is an older model gun, that needs the larger rear sight.

Does anyone know where I could find one for it?  Either original or after market.  I would really like to be able to shoot this gun, without the scope.

thanks,

Jim

i looked there, but was not able to find any rear sights for the large frame revolvers.  was hoping someone would know a dealer, or have something they wanted to sell.

thanks

RichardDW here on the forum may have some left in Parts or For Sale Column.

By saying Large Frame Rear Sight, you are referring to the one with the screw further back?    The newer Large Frames use the same as Small Frame if I am not mistaken.

This is correct.....the "older" .44's used a sight with the elevation screw mounted further to rear of the sight.  Here is a thread on it showing the difference between the two.  If it's an older .44, you probably need the sight that Kurt mentioned but make sure you verify it.

There is one exception to be aware of (one of the many in the DW world).  I have only seen 2 of these, the 2 that I picked up from a former DW board member.  The large-frame .44 and .41 were fitted with a more robust sight made by Iron Sight Gun Works.  Here is a thread on it back from 2010.

Thanks so much!!  I was on the Numerich site earlier, but could not find that sight.  I just bought it.  It did not say if it came with the mounting screw or spring.  but at least I have the sight coming in now.

This is my first .44 DW.  I have wanted one for years.

Thanks,

Jim

right on both counts!  I bought my first 15-2vh when i turned 21.  I was a young Marine stationed at Camp Lejuene (drinking the bad water 🙂 ).  I went to buy a Smith and Wesson, but when I held the DW...I was hooked!  Shooting was VERY important to us...and accuracy was not something you do without.  I routinely outshot my friends with that gun, and it was my first centerfire weapon.

I later picked up another 15 with different barrel lengths.

I found the .44 at a Cabelas in the gun safe.

I did get the sight in, and I am just waiting on the rear sight spring now, should have it late next week!

Ironically, I found another DW 15, and you already know where this story ends !

Has anyone seen this before (small gouge in the frame under and behind the cylinder).  did not notice it in the pics I saw before the sale.

Can you please post a photo here so we can see what you're talking about?

Thx.

Waiting for a pic but it sounds like ejector scratches from not holding through cylinder open when ejecting spent cases.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

I think Scorpio is onto it, likely ejector star scratched it.  Gotta be sure to hold that cylinder open when ejecting and continue to do so until fully retracted again.

Scout728 is correct, I do have several of the "new" style and at least 1 older style. Let me know.

Missing the cylinder stop?

That looks like it was surgically removed. Would that allow for swapping cylinders quickly?? (.357 to a .32-20 say.. with appropriate barrel change as well) What other reasons might one do that??
