I've never been much of a revolver guy but have been craving a .357 since I was a kid. I've been researching them, recently bought a Ruger GP100 match champion at a good price as an experiment and was stunned at how well I like shooting the revolver and even more so how much better I shoot with this mid-range revolver, especially in DA. I've had a lot of back & arm problems the last few years and my accuracy with my CZ's & 1911's has suffered dramatically. Had some back work done, still not good with semi's but encouraged enough with this Ruger that I've been researching Dan Wesson's & having a hard time deciding on new v old. I just found a local guy with a 715 from the 2015 run (000338 sn), not a blem, for $850. I really like the look of the blued 15-2VH, but this seems like a very reasonable deal on a gun with known round count (300) in perfect condition. Does it seem like a good buy to those of you knowledgeable of the new gun? Would you go new or should I keep shopping for the right older 15-2?

In case you didn't bother looking, the current production model (exact same thing) has an MSRP of $1,558 !

Oh man, I hope you don't let that one get away! I have a lot of "older" Dan Wessons, and they are not "better" than the new one that I have. I buy to shoot, and not to collect. The new 715's are top quality and the factory is very responsive to any issues. I don't think you will regret the purchase.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a little bit of gun powder remnant on it when you get it. A couple of weeks will a very long time for your son (anyone) to NOT shoot that before it's delivered. Just saying, don't hold him responsible
I would be disappointed if he didn't shoot it. He is a firefighter/paramedic & takes great care of all his equipment & he knows that he can use anything I own any time he wants. It'll probably be his some day anyway unless his little brother challenges him to a fist fight for it.

I just picked up a model 15 used. I have shot it a few times since. You will like that .357. Shoots .38s almost without recoil, and the .357s are not bad. It measures up quite well to my S&W Model 19 and Ruger GP100 Match Champion. Those three are currently my most often parolees for exercise from my gun safe.
Enjoy that firearm!

I regret to inform you that you have just destroyed any good feeling that you have for that Ruger. After your first few rounds from the DW, the Ruger will feel like it was put together from scrap metal found in a welding shop.
Of all the wheelguns I've ever owned or shot, the only one that I consider superior to the DW was the Colt Python.

My son delivered my Dan Wesson 715 yesterday. I will take it to the range on Sunday and shoot if for the first time. The double action trigger pull on this gun is smooth, relatively light and short. In fact, it's the shortest DA trigger pull that I've experienced. The single action pull is very light and very crisp. I'm very excited about getting to shoot this fine revolver any time I want.
