Hi gang I picked up a Pistol Pack this week and it wasn't quite what I expected to see, I'm not complaining but trying to find out more of what I have, for one thing the grips are plastic the Target grip has a small silver W medalion not the usual brass DW, the finger groove combat style of course has no medalion and is also plastic, both are a crappy tan color.
Now for the barrels, they are solid rib with fixed front sights like on the Model 14 service revolvers but they are Brite Blue like a Model 15.
The revolver is Brite Blue with an adjustable sight like the model 15 should have.
So is it possible to have Model 14 barrels with the model 15 Brite Blue finish.
And this looks to be UNFIRED!!! So I'm pleased with my purchase!
I know this POST is worthless without PICS, any info would be great I will try to get some Pic's posted

Dan Fan,
I may be a little off on my date range but I believe around 1975-1976 they switched from the pinned front sight like you have to the changeable sight that are most common. As for the grips they are made out of PowerWood (Plastic). This was something they were trying out back then. The ones I've seen are pretty hard to tell they are not some type of hardwood.
Did the medallions like the ones above?
The shrouds sounds like they are the standard shroud.
Hope this helps... (If I'm mistaken on any of this I'm sure the guys will let me know )

Thanks SMF I knew I had recently read about a Brite blue 14 Pistol Pack but couldn't remember where it was posted.
Thanks Jody that makes it in the right era, also this has a low serial number and the old style flat 2 piece barrel wrench that has never been used not a mark on the barrel nut or tool.
The medalion is simiilar but maybe smaller with no D just a W that looks look the one in your pic.
I'm surprised how many variances that you can come across just when you think you know what your'e doing.

I gotta see it 🙂 Sounds like you got a mixed pack also. You'll want to find some 15 barrels if you have the adj rear sight--I'm not certain, but I don't think you'll get POA with that combo. I have some 15 barrels--maybe we can work a swap on your bright blue 14 barrels. I have some of the powerwood grips also--I like the style / feel of them.
and of course...

I have an odd medallion also--my grips are wood, but the checkering is pressed instead of cut, and the DW medallion is silver instead of brass/gold. My seller swore he was the original owner of my pack also, and said he only put half a box of ammo through it. I find it hard to believe it came with both 14 and 15 barrels, but who knows.

Very good chance this is a pretty early production item in the -2 series, Powerwood was a plastic grip alternative, and I also believe that there were some non-interchangeable front sight barrels.
The pictures will be great to see, and may help us fill in some more history gaps.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Ok, here's my .02...apply my opinion at your own peril.
Adjustable rear sights mean it's a Model 15-2 for sure. Steve & Jody are right, in that the first 15-2's (began production in 1976) has fixed front sights...if I recall the article that Jody's talking about, the adjustable front sights came alone about mid-1977.
The Powerwood grips with small medallions, should mean that the Pistol Pac is probably a 1976 manufacture. That's only my guess.
Serial number should be 5-digit & somewhere under 65xxx.
I can't find my good pic of an early 15-2, so I'm posting this one of my Porkchop. Your shroud will be slightly different, but the front sights should look like this...

Thanks for your help guys, I think we now know what I have here Charger Fan's post helps alot, my barrels have the front sight like the one pictured in CF's post, these are the same shape as the color insert sights.
So here is what I believe I have
Early Model 15-2 serial # under 65xxx
Black case ( 3rd one I have had in 5yrs) sold the other 2
early style barrel wrench(flat metal w/nut)
2 Powerwood grips - one with small silver medalion with a W
4,6,8 inch brite blue solid rib standard barrels with fixed sight blade
2 1/2 inch heavy lug barrel with fixed sight blade
all of these items appear to be unsed and unfired

Glad we got ya figured out. We'd still like to see pics, if you can sometime.
Regarding your 2½ snubby barrel...Steve was trying to say (in the other thread) that though the shroud may appear to be a heavy lug, if it has this little angle cut in the front, it is in fact a non-heavy shroud. It's a rather small difference between the two.
The heavy version will be squared-off at the front, like this. Sorry, this is the best pic example I could find, since I don't own one of these yet.

It's the squared off Heavy barrel, I wish it had the angle on it then all 4 barrels would match, from the condition off these barrels and shrouds none of them have been fired everything looks just as it would as if it came from the factory yesterday this isn't something someone put togegther.
I will try and figure how to post pic's and try to get some up today.

That's great 🙂 after a few posts and some discussion, it sounds like you have a true gem in your collection. Every 15 I ever had was a newer model with removeable sights--never knew anybody who had one until now.
If you have having trouble posting pics let me know. I'd be glad to post them for you, or I can post the auction pics. I'd really like a close up of the medallion as well as the rear sight.
Congrats,

I'd like to see those, too. Although I'm almost certain that the rear sight is just like the one on a Sentinel MK III.
Congrats are definitely in order Dan Fan, that's a pretty neat catch. I hope to be able to find one of those myself one day, to place an important piece in my collection.
There are so many different variations in the small frame DW's, that continue to truly make them intriguing to me...gotta have an example of all, before I can rest. hehe

Thanks for posting the The Pac looks like it's in really nice shape, I'd say you did darn good finding that.
The grip with the medallion is pretty much what I had pictured. Although, this is the first time I've seen one of those medallions up this close. Very interesting.
It's also interesting that the snubby barrel is the heavy style. It makes me wonder if it was swapped at a gun store, as it sat in someone's inventory. I guess that's a mystery that will remain.
Looks like I was off on my rear sight guess, that one appears to be the same style as the later 15-2's. Good thing I didn't bet any money on it.
