I recently bought a used model 15, with a 6" barrel. First DW! Having now gotten over the "new gun" jitters, haven't even fired it yet. (lack of .357 ammo, just received a bag of Starline cases to load). upon further exam, I noticed that the Muzzle end of the barrel looks a little rough. {trying to upload pic} On any of my other firearms, I would say that it needs a little work to clean it up. Any thoughts out there?

Yeah, that looks funky. You’d almost think it was installed backwards, but I don’t think that’s possible.
totally possible. I once had a made on Monday .410 barrel that had the forcing cone and frame threads cut on both ends...
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

I am pretty sure that the barrels have different thread pitches on each end so they can not be installed backwards. The forcing cone in the barrel has to face the cylinder.
That does look quite rough though. It shouldn't take someone with a lathe any time at all to make it look pretty.
The threads on both ends are identical. The nut screws on both ends. But that is only the case with the 357 Magnum. All the other small frame calibers have the same barrel nut threads but different frame threads. Ditto the large frame and Supermags. Barrel nuts are the same, frame are different. Except 44 mag and 445 are the same. I think 41 mag and 414 are too.

The barrel wrench goes in the end of the barrel and catches the 2 grooves in the barrel nut. Don't be scared to put a little pressure on the wrench to get it loose.
I have noticed on most of my barrels the cylinder end of the barrel has longer threads than the muzzle end. Can't say that is true in every DW, only what I have noticed.
Good luck and enjoy shooting an awesome gun.
