I missed a nice Monson 44-6VH for $450 today, so I spent some time today scanning the web with a case of DWAS. A buddy of mine used to be an IHMSA shooter and has a good DW collection. He's now a rifleman and is shooting on one of Americas teams going to Australia for the worlds very soon. So I figure maybe he has an oddball that would fit into my "collection" and give him some running money down under. So I say hey, got a 41/44 - 6"/8" or maybe a 375SM lay'n around look'n for a home? I know he has a 357max (i don't want) and some other SM's but I don't know which ones.
So he has an excellent 445 with brass and dies he'll sell me for a great price. It's a lot more gun than I was ever looking for and a little intimidating.
So, can I run straight 44mags through a 445 or very reduced 445 loads w/out harming the gun or load problems???

I shoot 44 mag loads in mine but you need to clean the cylinder good before switch to the longer 445 cases, otherwise you will have trouble ejecting the fired cases. I also shoot a reduced load of 12.5 gr. of unique behind a 240 gr. rainer plated bullet in the 445 case. Good power but not punishing.

You can shoot 44s in the 445, however... I'd seat the bullets out a bit to ensure no materiel is shaved off at the throat.
+1 on cleaning cylinder to avoid sticking cases.
BTW, in NOV I'll probably have a 41 for trade; so if you find a 740:

I had planned on a 15-2, a 44M, and Maybe a 375SM. I would rather shoot reduced 445 loads, but brass is so rare. It's going to be hard to find reduced load data too. Is there a problem with pre-detonatin and slow pistol powders? I guess I could run a fast powder and have a bunch extra case like a 45auto I guess.
A 15-2, 41M and a 445 is a nice set too eh?

Mike,
Not only can you shoot 44 Mags out of the .445 SM but also .44 Specials if you want a really mild round to shoot. Just as the other guys have said you have to make sure you keep it clean so there is no build up in the chambers. The only difference between the .44 Special, .44 Mag and .445 SM is that each is .10 inch between the .44 Special and the .44 Mag and again .10 inch between the .44 Mag and the .445 SM. That is the great thing about the .445 SuperMag is its versatility in power.
Take care and keep your powder dry!

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
