I'm thrilled !
This is the second try at this post. I had one sentence left and some thing threw me out.
The USPS is hilarious! At 11:40 am. I finally received an email that they had picked the gun up Thursday. Then at 4:35 pm. I received a message that it had been delivered at 11:30 am. I would not have had time to get to my dealer before they closed today. As it happened, he called me earlier in the day and by the time USPS notified me I'd had the gun for over 3 hours and had just successfully completed the repairs to the shroud.
In keeping with the rules, I am posting pics.
First is how it looked in the listing:
Following is a pic the seller provided showing the flame cutting. In reality it isn't any where near as bad as it looks here:
Here's one of the pics of the damage to the finish that the seller posted. In reality the damage to the finish was much worse than the pics showed. It took me 3 hours to do the repair and it could still use the attention of a professional:
Here's how it looks now:
And this one shows that the damage to the shroud has been fixed. These were much deeper than I had expected.
Can't wait 'til the ammo arrives.

Mine is blued, but I could learn to love a gem like that, a great find. You'll enjoy shooting it, I still enjoy shooting mine even after 15 years and many other guns added to my safe. Flame cutting is most always a direct result of light bullets fired too fast. I've fed mine a steady diet of 180 to 200 gr. cast and have only the faintest line after hundreds of rounds.

I've got some 180 gr. JHP XTP's coming from Bullseye.
Now I have to try to get my brother-in-law to make me some target style grips out of some really pretty wood like rosewood or cocobolo.
If I sounded like I was bashing the seller, I appologize. I wasn't. He reported most of the damage to me and took pics of most of it. There are few people who are as anal as I am about caring for their equipment.
I also have to get someone to make plugs for the 3 holes in the top of the shroud where the scope was mounted.

Mike, for those plugs, try finding a local distributor for Fastenal. They advertise virtually any type screw or nut, and basically all you need is a set screw of the correct diameter and length.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Man, that's a real beauty, congrats on your find!! At least it isn't a blued gun with those scratches, buffing them out would be a whole 'nuther story.
After reading up on the no-no's of using 158g bullets in these guns, I will definitely only use 180g or heavier in mine. Although, I think I will see if I can find a decent looking box of the old Remington 158g ammo, just to have for pictures-n-stuff. Hmmm, that got me thinking...did DW have any official 357 Max ammo, like they did/do with other calibers?

I believe they used to many years ago. I remember seeing it on the Norwich website.
Mike, you did a nice job on that Supermag...looks great! That gun was my first Dan Wesson and it is still a favorite of mine. The flame-cutting will occur with heavy bullet loads also. I have never shot anything less than 180's in mine, but it is there. The cutting only goes so deep then stops, and doesn't affect the safety of the gun.
Favorite loads are with the Speer 180 and 200 grain TMJ's and IMR-4227. Exceptionally accurate.

IHMSA 80X80,
Curious what grains of IMR 4227 you may be using for that terrific load with a 180 grain bullet? I have used that powder too, but found myself splitting cases and am not at the top of powder suggested maximum's at all. You could send a PM if you do not wish to publish it. I have been puzzled for awhile why I have had problems with that powder.

With those Speer TMJ's I used 20.5 grains for the 180 and 20.0 grains for the 200. They are loaded in nickel IHMSA brass or nickel Federal brass. Fed 205M primers for all of them. You're problem might be if you are using the Remington brass and different case capacities. I believe it might need about a grain and a half less powder, if I remember correctly from the old days. All my brass is the old Federal stuff...never used the Remington brass.

I saw the gun also and had thought about bidding, but had just bought a 715 that was NIB for some big bucks. Even it needed some tweaking before firing after sitting for so long.

As far as I know you can get factory DW ammo in 357SM from:
http://www.bullseyeguns.com/danammo.asp
I had bought some from them to get started a few years back.
