BTW, the CZ gunsmith suggested locktite (blue) on the barrel nuts to keep the nut from backing off. ?
Geez I hope the guy was kidding! Or maybe you were actually talking to the pizza delivery guy at the factory or something. I have a 15-2 at the factory right now for some work, I hope they do not loctite my barrel nut on. I have the greatest faith in the gunsmiths at the factory but I am surprised they said that about loctite. Does anybody know, the new model 715s do not have anything on the barrel threads do they?
Sorry if I am somewhat hijacking this thread.

what is the problem with blue (removable) lock tight?
The problem is that it is not needed, and that is not really a problem. You just don't need it.
A properly set up and maintained DW revolver only needs to have a properly gapped barrel and a firmly, hand tightened barrel nut. Clean, straight threads, minimal lube on the threads, good quality wrench (can you spell EWK?) and you're good to go.
In a long shooting session, I will check the barrel nut and gap periodically and possibly do some adjusting and tightening. The ability to adjust gap, a critical component of accuracy and maximum performance, can require me to participate actively at times.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

as I said, the BLUE locktite - not red And I do have the CZ tool. .. You guys may need to lift some weights or something... Anyway, a moot point. CZ called and the repair on this gun will be almost $400 including a new cylinder, hand, hand spring and some other parts he didn't name. The timing and head space will need to be adjusted as well. These repairs will take about a month.
I know you guys love these revolvers and have been very helpful through this situation, and perhaps when I have the opportunity to shoot a properly set up firearm I will agree. But for now DW has left me with a bad taste in my mouth - but I did get a great T shirt from this site.
I'll report back when I get the gun back and have had a chance to shoot it.

You keep saying the folks at CZ... please call Keith for service or repairs at 607.336.1174 ext 24 to ensure he or one of his folks in the Dan Wesson shop are working on it. The repairs sound a bit steep to me and I can't blame you for being a bit soured.

$400 is a pretty big bite, no doubt about that. I don't know what you paid for this gun, but if you add the DW repairs to your purchase is the total more than $1200? A new 715 runs about that, but you will end up with a factory reconditioned Monson 15-2 for (I hope) less.

never heard back from Keith. Joe (the gunsmith at CZ) did email me to tell me they won't cut the new cylinder for moon clips (we shoot steel plates - I ordered a speed loader from 5 star which came after the gun was sent to CZ but would rather have moon clips) but otherwise radio silence, no ETA.
The loose barrel was the least of the problems with that gun. I probably just didn't tighten the nut well enough - was afraid of stripping it. I'm looking forward to shooting the refurbished firearm. I have three barrels (two purchased from CZ before the SHTF and may have gotten the last 8" barrel which was truly amazing.

The gun is back! locks up tight and shoots straight too. no more soft hits or jams. Seems more accurate in .357 than .38 special. Not sure why. (I should mention that the barrel nut did come loose during the range session - it was factory tightened...)
After they got the gun CZ went radio silent for over 3 weeks. (turns out the gunsmith was on vacation and no one covered his work). It took over a month but CZ did the following: Installed a cylinder, (had new cylinder blued) upper crane leg, hand and crane lock , fired for function.
Total $369.
Not sure what to do with the gun. I have two barrels that i am not sure I will use, 4" and 6' - I really like the 8". May sell the whole thing and buy a Smith with a long barrel; may sell the two shorter barrels. Right now just glad the ordeal is over.
Thanks to all on the Forum for the advice and patience.
