I was curious of the values of a model 12 Pistol Pack vs a Model 15 pistol pack? I know the model 12 PP are rare but are they worth as much as a common model 15 PP? What would you value a complete model 12 PP in excellent condition? I know a guy who has one for sale and I was needing help with the value. I can't find much on model 12 Istolsoft Packs.
Thanks
Lane
Hard to put a value on a excellent condition model 12 pack. They are only three barrel assemblies, not four. Lacking the 8" Which drops the price (just guessing) by about $250. They lack removable sights, red ramps, upgraded lockwork (hand spring/ transfer bar and other changes) and the sleek look of the 15-2. On the other hand, the 12 sided exterior nut is pricless, just try to find one. They also made 30 or 40 times as many 15-2's. Be sure the pack still has the inletted grip blank. They have become very scarce.
I think the porkchop guns are the models that began the legend of umsurpassed accuracy, maybe even better than later guns. No proof, just a hunch. MHO, go ahead a grab a piece of DW history. I did. I thought those big Model 12 sights would help my vision. They didn't, Trifocal lenses did.

Thanks for the information. The gun is in 95 percent plus condition with the 3 barrels. The gun comes with the blank grip block and two sets of combat grips. Did the model 12 PP not have the target grips in the pack? The case is lined with the green foam and I was wondering if that was original? Did the model 12 PP not have the buckle and patch? I have a model 715 PP and a model 15-2HV PP. I am a rookie on the model 12 so I was curious.

The early model 12 PP's came with a dark green case & green foam inside. Later ones came with a black case & grey foam inside. Cloth wasn't introduced until after the introduction of the 15-2 model. Buckles & patches were also introduced at approximately the same time. The model 12's came with two extra BA's, one finished grip, one grip blank, a barrel wrench & feeler gauge. The extra BA's did not include nuts.
As far as value, so far they have generally been valued less than the 15-2's, but you never know, that could change at any time. If you do decide to get it, make sure & show it off!

Thanks for the information and knowledge. The Pack appears to be 100% complete in that case. Would you say a model 12 PP is worth 80% the going rate for a model 15? I can't find any model 12 PPs sold for comparison online. Is changing the barrels with the external nuts as simple as changing the BA on a later model DW?

The last time I saw a -12 Pack in a local shop, there were actually two of them, very clean and in excellent condition. They sold fairly quickly at $650-750. That was 3 years sgo
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Wow! You did great! I think the going rate today would be the higher of Steve's estimate or higher.
You asked about target grips. They were different than later grips. Smooth and not as fat. Later they became quite stout till they started slimming down again by the late seventies. The Michigan grip is one of the original designs as was the Sacramento (named after the design request of their police department) finger groove grip. All fit however.
Actually, changing grips is even easier. Just be sure to not let the wrench slip and damage that valuable, irreplacable nut. One advantage of the porkchop shroud is that the cylinder was easy to remove with the shroud off. Be carefull not to let it slide off when changing shrouds. Another neat feature is the ability to adjust the sights with a dime.
