Are model 15 strut springs interchangeable with model 12s? Also are the strut plungers supposed to be a rounded face with a slight lip on the outer edge?

Hey all I just picked up a model 12 that's become a bit problematic on me. It worked fine in the store but it's begun having issues resetting the strut after a bit of usage. I've diagnosed it down to a weak strut spring but looking online there don't seem to be any parts! I've stretched the spring which fixed the issue for a little while, but it's come back again so I'd imagine the metallurgy on the spring is a bit tired.

The interface between the strut and the trigger is pretty polished, so I believe the issue is the strut gets hung up at the edge of the trigger after being fired and the spring doesn't have enough force to overcome the lip. I tried stretching the spring and oiling the strut plunger but it's to no avail.

My other theory is that the strut plunger has mushroomed out a few thou and it jams itself into it's hole. Is there any validity to this?

Does anyone know if the model 12 springs are interchangeable or where I can get a replacement?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum from PA!

I can't personally answer your questions as I'm newer to revo's but the others on here will get you taken care of.

I used to live out there. I've traded the hills for the desert.

As an update - I noticed the numrich parts listings use the same image and have a similar part number with a different letter suffix for the strut spring (155850D for the 12 vs 155850A for the 15) so I'm optimistic. I've bought a replacement strut plunger since I think the mushrooming is the issue and I'll update for future googling reference when it arrives.

I think the only difference between the 12 and later springs is the hand spring. The very first change DW made to their revolver was to redesign the hand and spring so the end of the spring fits into a slot in the back of the hand. The 11 and 12 hands have no slot and the end of the spring has to be wrapped around the hand. It then rubbed against the sideplate and would break very quickly. If you are going to be shooting your gun frequently you should seek out a later hand and spring, eBay will have them, and and upgrade the gun. I have found that most used hands will time properly.

If your strut or sear is worn someone may have tried to do a Smith style trigger job and filed the strut or sear. That will lead to excessive wear.

Thanks for the good info. I guess I'll pony up the $30 for the spring kit.

I think it's been shot a lot, rather than someone polishing the sear too much since it looked like it was only polished in the area where the strut interfaces. Edges still seem crisp and round and after another look inside I don't think it's the strut getting stuck. The strut plunger seems to lodge itself into the hole and the contact face is a bit mushroomed out which tracks with it being shot a lot.

It's a bit perplexing though, because it's immaculately clean both internally and around the barrel/cylinder as well as inside, but there's a decent amount of wear on the finish. My best guess is that someone put it in an ultrasonic cleaner, since there isn't even any residue under the barrel nut. What's odd is that I got it from a pawn shop, and this doesn't seem like the type of fate that would befall something that otherwise received good care.

I bet there are a lot of DW's out there with their own interesting histories.

Just as an update to this if anyone in the future has the same issue - I got a strut plunger from Numrich gun parts and it's 99% fixed my issue. Occasionally it won't engage the hammer but that's maybe 1/100 DA trigger pulls. SA works every time. I think a new spring would fully solve it but I haven't gotten around to buying a kit.

One thing to watch out for is the fact that DW's have a long travel for trigger reset. If the trigger does not reset in DA you will not be able to pull the trigger and get the hammer to go back. This has happened to me when shooting rapidly in DA. Easy to do. embarassed
