Hello fellow DW owners...
I headed to the gun show this weekend looking for a 357 and ended up buying this very nicely blued with Pachmyer grips (medallion inserts).
The shroud is most certainly the 'Pork-Chop' style and the nut is recessed.
The shroud simply has 357 Mag Ctg on it.
The S/N is inside the frame (173XX) behind the barrel and on the outside of the barrel is
Dan Wesson Arms
Model 14
Monson, MASS
Looks very very clean, good bluing - only has a scratch on the barrel near the sight. I've ordered the tool to check the gap and take her apart for a good clean.
Can you give me an idea of when this was made? Any other pointers? I'll fire some 38 +P and 357 from her after I take her apart and clean/oil.

to DWF.
A porkchop 14 with recessed barrel nut is actually the 14-1 model, which was introduced in September 1971. The 14-2, with straight shroud, entered production in early 1975.
Others on this Site (much more demanding than I) will soon be along to say
so forewarned is forearmed
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

What are your thoughts of this 357? I paid $300 for it – proly a bit on the high side, but I was impressed by how tight and sturdy it was. The guy wanted $350 for it.

As already noted, a 14 is a good bit less common than a 15, and -1 models are also much less common than -2 models. Yours is a DW rarely seen in captivity, at least around here. Getting barrels/shrouds will be a little more challenging, if that is your wish.
Nice revolver, lets us know how it shoots

Beauty! For the relative rairty of that gun, I think you got a smokin' deal...sorta teetering on the edge of
if you ask me.
I paid more for mine, if that makes you feel any better.
Your .357 & my .38 would make a nice pair of bookends in a DW collection...

Sorry for the crappy pics, I had about 1.8 minutes to snap those & load 'em on the confuzer before I left for work this morning. Probably won't be able to get some decent (by CF standards, that is) shots until this weekend.

Dang!! I think of 14-1's as the missing link! And now there's two of 'em at the same time!! Inset barrel nut on a 'chop - those really are nice looking DWs.
CF - Mint, eh? Ya' done good!! I have that same grip on a 4" 15-2 and really like it. Can't wait for the "showcase pics"...
