I signed up last fall to get information about a 15-2 that I was considering, but the owner wisely decided to keep it. 9 months later my newest baby just came home. As far as I can tell it is a fairly early model 14 from Monson. It is currently a 4-inch with Pachmayr grips with the DW logo. The serial number is 30509. It appears to have had a very easy life. The only appreciable wear is the cylinder ring, and both the barrel and cylinder bores are clean.
I'm hoping I can get a bit of information from those more knowledgeable than me. Were these grips original to the gun? Given the serial number, is it possible to accurately date it? Any quirks I should be aware of? How tight should the barrel nut be?
I do have a barrel wrench on order, which I will need prior to firing it. The person I bought it from got it in trade, and did not know anything about DW's. Lucky for him he did not try to fire it, since the shroud was loose and the barrel clearance was out around .015. I removed the shroud, tightened the barrel up to .006 on the tightest cylinder and hand tightened the barrel nut to hold everything in place until the wrench arrives.

The barrel nut should be snug but don't go crazy with it. Recheck it after a shooting session. If it loosened up,go a little tighter next time. You can open the cylinder and hold the breech end of the barrel with your finger as you tighten the nut with the wrench. This helps to keep the barrel from turning as you tighten the nut. I have never seen Pachmayers come from the factory. In the old days they were wood grips and later they swithched to Hogues. Someone else more knowledgable than I will jump in if I am mistaken about this though. I love the feel of the Pachs, and use them on my IDPA 15-2, but you can't beat the looks of the wood ones, especially the Zebra wood grips. Nice revolver you picked up. Hope you enjoy it!

Dave, you are correct... the grips do have the Pachmayr logos. I mistook the stylized P for a D. They are certainly comfortable, but I am partial to wood myself, so will go in search of some suitable wood grips at some point.
I can't wait to get it out to the range. I have a Python snubby and an S&W 66-1 in 4 inch that I want to do a side by side by side with.
