The horseshoe half moon clip that retains the cylinder/yoke assembly from falling out is flat on one side. I believe this is because it needs to be fitted to the gun and requires filing/flattening the clip to fit. Mine is round on one side and flat on the other. Does it make a difference whether the flat surface is facing the front or back of the gun?

No doubt the retainer clip is a homemade replacement, but it probably works fine. I would place the flat side facing towards the front, as there are small flat surfaces there for it to rest against while the rounded surface towards the rear can nest nicely in the groove cut into the lower leg of the crane.

I have found that the flat side is typically installed toward the muzzle. I would say that about half of the DWs I have worked on have clips with a flat of some amount. It seems to be the final fitment of the crane to frame.Hugelk
The final fitment I read about in an old post here when searching and it makes sense. Thanks for confirming that and the orientation of the clip.
