Hello to everyone, I am new to this site, and new to these guns. I recenty purchased my second, 15-2 .357, and have a question about the grip. Both of my dan wessons are model 15-2, .357, monson guns, and both have the checkered walnut target grips, but the grip on my latest addition is larger in size than the other. I haven't brought the gun home yet, so I can't say exactly how much larger, but it definately has more girth than the other. So my question is, did the same grip come in different sizes? As I stated, other than the size, they are exactly the same.
thanks, brad

Bd, most likely I suspect you will find the larger of the two grips the medallion will say DWA and the smaller of the two will say DW. The DWA grips are from before around 1980 and the DW grips are after. The grips were all built by sub contractors I believe, so they varied some over time. As the guys said, pics will help nail it down, although a lot of mystery still remains about our favorite subject.

The larger grip is nice, its like brand new, but I have small hands and its just a little too big. Now that I have brought the gun home, I will handle it and see if I can get used to it. Otherwise its time to look for another smaller one. I like the zebra like you have, I might just have to try to get one of those.
thanks, brad
Brad,
The target zebrawood grips are still available directly from Dan Wesson for the small frame revolvers. Another option is to have LB make up some custom grips for you. Below is a picture of the grips I received from him last week. You can check out some of his work by clicking the link in the sidebar. The pictures below speak for themselves!
Hey Brad,
All the items they have available is not listed on the CZ-USA website. I would suggest contacting Genny or Priscilla at Dan Wesson directly. Here is a link to their contact information and to the current price list.
Hope this helps,

Brad- First of all, welcome to DWF. There is a real wide range of DW grips down through the years, Hogue also has a lot of grips available BUT you usually have to wait on backorder. A few opportunities include:
Buy an inletted block and roll your own
Buy a beater grip on ebay or Gunbroker, and start grinding
Buy an LB Custom (you're gonna do it eventually)
or try one like this:
I don't especially like this grip, but it has a nice width to fill a smaller hand without the swell at the bottom to make you feel like you can't control it. It is a DW grip, and it's yours to try out on one condition-you need to PM me your mailing address so I can send it out to you, a freebie to a new Michigan guy from a old Michigan guy. This is a little DWF thing we call "paying it forward", it's my turn to throw one out there.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

That's a super nice offer, Steve. Especially for an irreplaceable DW grip.
I have fairly large hands, but have never been a big fan of a grip that puts your pinky finger too far forward. I like to keep a lot of the feeling of recoil control delegated to my pinky finger, so when I got this grip a while back from one of our fantastic DWF members ( ), I was delighted to find that it has that "just right" feeling at the range. It's rapidly become one of my favorite wood grips for small frame DW's.
This one looks like sort of a checkered/flat-sided version of Steve's grip. No idea who made it as of yet, but it looks right at home on a Porkchop!
