Ensure the revolver is clear and then look at the muzzle end. If there's a barrel nut, it's removable. On the fixed barrel heavy lug, there is an angle cut leading towards the muzzle. Sorry, not where I can post a pic, but someone soon will.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Yes DW did a run of fixed (non removable) barrel revolvers during the Palmer years. They aren't real common but do show up. The pics above show the differences. Both are good shooters, just the fixed model doesn't have the flexibility of swapping barrels.

i have a palmer fb with the tapper at the bottom - does that mean if it is a straight cut it would be the removeable type......sorry to be a pain but a couple are popping up for sale in Australia at the moment cheapish......so im considering purchasing what i can find so i have spares ect. ive attached the picture. sorry to hijack the thread MR1911.

When shopping via online. Pictures can tell a lot if you know what to look for. While DW's do have a lot of one off variations out there, as a general rule fixed barrel models all came from Palmer. FB's have a bevel on the front of the barrel lug, and will have a solid rib (no vents). So even if you can't see the muzzle a FB can usually be picked out fairly easy. The picture you added is surely a normal switch barrel model. Good luck and you are no pain cuz we love answering questions. It's fun to feed the need.
