Hey guys! Ok, I just found out that Dan Wesson made a model 44. I have a 744. Is there any real difference between the two? Just wondering...

44 is Blued, 744 is Stainless. (as mentioned above) .  They even made a few fixed barrel units like my semi-mythical 5" FB

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

A gentleman asked if I would be interested in one of these at a recent gun show, I responded that I didn't know they made a fixed barrel 44. Looks like it could be quite a collector!!

And it wears the rare "DWCA" LB grip. There are a handful (no pun intended) of these special edition Dan Wesson Collectors Association LB grips.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Yes it does! I'm very thankful that my great friend LB was gracious enough to make this for an early few DWAS members...and I was fortunate to be one of them.

Thanks Lawrence!occasion

I, too was lucky enough to get one of those DWCA grips. It lives on my 7445, which is currently wearing it's VH8SC, BA.

There are exceptions to the 744 being stainless. I have an older stainless 44 mag (Monson). The gun is stamped 44. I also have a 445 which it is stamped 445. It is stainless also.

I don't think I've ever seen a 744 or 7445 that has the '7' stamped in the serial number.  Mostly they have the caliber included in the serial number as a prefix.  The older Monson guns had letter designations for caliber also, ie A for .22, C for 41 mag. etc.  Those are just a couple I remember off the top of my head but there are others.  There is a sticky I believe that gives great background on this issue.  The model number is usually only stamped under the crane on the later Norwich guns.

The only constant with regard to Dan Wesson serial numbers is that there really is no constant to them.

I had a pair of 740 357 super mags that were only about 10 numbers apart in serial number BUT one of them had a 357 preceding the number the other just had SE preceding the number.  Turns out they were not close in date of manufacture at all, there were years separating the two guns.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.
