I was at my favorite hardware store / gun shop today and they HAVE a 715 pac, less the case, patch, buckle, extra sights, gage, barrel tool; okay just the gun plus three barrels. Now, the finish is like a satin finish on everything and the cylinder stop on the frame is bright blue! It is a Monson gun and I will go back in a day or so to get a picture or maybe even the set. Gotta check the finances. It was in excellent shape but quite a different look to it. Anybody ever seen this before? Maybe a blue gun gone ……………… wild! That doesn't explain what looks to be stainless. Maybe I am wrong about the stainless. Any way to tell for sure?

Serial number may help a little on that. So far, the 715's seem to have an "S" somehere in the serial number. Sounds like the cylinder stop broke off (not uncommon on blue models, but I've not seen it happen on stainless), and got replaced with the replacement piece available from CZ/DW to resolve that issue.
Possibly a refinished 15-2? If the finish is extremely smooth, it might be refinished. A refinished blued DW will be very smooth on the "flats". Stainless will likely show some fine "grain" from the polishing. Pop off the sideplate and take a look inside?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve,
What I mean by cylinder stop is the little bud of metal on the left side of the frame above the trigger which hits the cylinder when it is open. I didn't think it was replaceable. It's the only blue piece on the frame. The shrouds are all a matte finish with blue barrels inside. I will definitely get back there and take a pic or three.

Without looking at a bunch of pics to back up my memory, I believe most of (if not all) the stainless guns have that cylinder stop as an integral part of the side plate. The cylinder stop on the blued Monson 15-2's was a separate piece…although hard to see, really.
Palmer 15-2's (& possibly late Monson) were integral with the side plate, as far as I've noticed.
The other thing about the stainless guns is that they don't have blued barrels…so now I'm wondering if this has been refinished with a Metalife finish or something? Then when the cylinder stop got knocked off later on, they could only replace it with a blued one, since they were only made for the blued guns?
Here's some pics for example. These first two are the earlier removable cylinder stop...looks sorta like a "D" shaped knob..
Then they changed them to the integral style...looks sorta like a lump on the side plate.

CF,
I went back today thinking I would buy it for a price. But, no price would have been low enough. Upon looking at your pics the cylinder stop is like the first 2 pics you posted, and it is highly polished blue.
The guy would not let me take any pics; straw purchase issue.......what? I've purchased 2 guns there and don't sell drugs so come on. The gun is "completely" coated with the dull "silver" finish, even the front sight blades (not the red part) and the whole rear sight in total.
He did let me take the barrel off and the grip. Total coating under the grip and the threads inside the frame. Inside the chambers in the cylinder also. There is a slight wear line on the back of the cylinder and it looks like steel showing through the coating. It may be the Metalife you mention.
The shrouds are all heavy, no vents. The barrels are all blue. The action is tight and the trigger is good, oh the hammer tang is small, like the one in your first pic. Maybe this is an unusual gun and worth another look. He's firm at $550.

That's odd that he wouldn't let you take pics. It does sound like it was probably a blued gun that someone had coated…strange that the rear sight was coated along with it. The short hammer tang (spur) in that first pic should be standard for a 15/715.
For $550, it doesn't sound like too bad of a deal, though. If you had to, you could probably sell off those extra barrels & practically have the gun for free.

CF,
I had my 715 with me and the spur on the coated gun was about 2/3 the length of mine. The Monson s/n was 6 digits. Didn't write it down. No letters anywhere. I'll be going back later this week for a pick up (not a truck ) and see if I can't sneak a pic. I doubt that anyone would want the shrouds as they won't match any other 715's I've ever seen. Guess I'm beating this horse to death..................

That's interesting. I had to go dig out my 6-digit Monson (172714) & compare it to my Palmer 715 hammer, to make sure I wasn't going crazy. Mine are exactly the same dimensions, other than the Palmer spur is checkered on the top, whereas the Monson has straight ridges. There's 8 valleys (bottoms? dips? low spots? ) between the ridges.
Anyway, yeah we're beating dead horseys & possibly splitting hairs here. Good luck with your "pick up" & I hope you can sneak a pic of this gun, I'm all sorts-a-curious by now.

Or another option would be to keep the whole set and have HotBluer refinish the frame to match the barrels.
Just a thought.

Everything already matches. Hey, it would be a good candidate for Black Nickle, ooooooooooooo. Anybody ever do Black Nickle?
Sorry. I mis-read something. Too many varying opinions and I got confused. You still could have HotBluer do a refinish. Ford's used to do black nickle but they don't do it anymore.

Before you do anything crazy 😉 According to my DW guy--who seems very knowledgeable about some DW stuff.... DW actually did a few guns in Armaloy, armalite, metalife, etc (I don't remember which). He has one in 44 mag handed to him by DW himself, and it is superbly done. However, if DW did it, it should be a flawless job.

Maybe one more piece of DW history there. 6 digit seems to make it a 15-2, and the finish you describe sounds like Armoloy. If it was a factory experiment it might have had the sights done too. I'd be thinking about it if it was in my backyard.
