I have an issue with my Model 715 6V that I haven't read about on here anywhere. The hole in the shroud, for the alignment pin is not located properly. This makes the shroud canted slightly to the right, when sighting down the barrel. I have to crank the rear sight WAY over to compensate, since the front sight leans to the right. I am sure the hole in the shroud is off, because I compared it to a couple shrouds for my Model 15-2 and you can see the difference. The hole is much closer to the edge.

Has anybody ever seen a shroud with this problem? I'm not sure what to do with it, I showed it to a gunsmith but he said to weld the hole up and bore a new pin hole wouldn't be cheap, that I should just get another shroud. I emailed Dan Wesson Arms and they said the same thing. I been looking, but haven't run across any 6" SS shrouds, just whole barrel assemblies which usually don't go too cheap.

I tried to take pics of it, but couldn't get any to come out clear enough to show what I mean.

1. If it were me I would compare and find drill bit to match the alignment hole, fill hole

with JB weld then using a drill press make new hole.

2.It might be possible to use a dremel tool to cut hole in the direction to relieve cant.

not sure if shroud would move while shooting  if this is done. But I would be willing

to bet there are some DW's out there missing the alignment pin that are being shot.

What blacktop said are very good options! Another option depending on how bad it is to drill it out, press an oversize plug in it then drill. There is not much to work with there and that will require some fine work. Welding it up wouldn't bad all as long as it would be machinable. If this is the only shroud on the gun, you could drill the shroud hole on location oversize and have a pin made up to work so you wouldn't have to drill the frame.

Just more ideas. Laugh Anything I can do to help, let me know, I just don't have the right welding equipment for this task.

I got it! Drill the shroud hole out oversize (on location) and make a bushing to fit the oversize hole in the shroud, and ID of bushing to fit the frame pin. Just again, depends on how bad its off.

You guys have some good ideas. I was thinking about just relieving the hole in the direction needed, but I kinda like the JB weld idea. That stuff is handy for a lot of things. I don't know about trying to drill the stainless, is it pretty hard?

                  Thanks

I just worked on a SS shroud here for another member and didn't have any problems machining it with HSS tools.

I just re-read your orginal post.....did you just compare to your 15-2 or did you

try the 15-2 shroud on your 715 ?  I would really check and make sure that

alignment pin has not been bent before I did anything.

I actually have 2 6" shrouds for my 15-2. I put both of them on the 715 and they look fine. If I hold the SS shroud up next to my 15-2 shrouds I can definitely see that the hole is off in comparison also. The hole is really very close to the edge.

What gets me is that this is a Monson gun, I can't see how somebody owned it for 20-25 years with a crooked shroud! It should have been sent back and corrected when it was new.
