Mine has a three inch barrel or so I'm told.
Only if someone took a grinder to it.
Actually, to be precise, the barrel itself on that gun should measure 3 3/4". They lopped off a 1/4" when they changed the Porkchop from the exposed nut to the flush nut. But it's generally referred to as a 4" barrel. DW didn't try to split hairs where the 1/4" was concerned, they merely rounded up.

I wouldn't say one is better than the other per se, the main reason for the design change was for the buying public's eye appeal. The Porkchop design was a little too unusual for most people.
From a function standpoint, the Porkchop shroud is a simpler design, IMO. The lower leg of the shroud holds the front pivot point of the crane into the frame, so once you remove the shroud, you can swing the cylinder open & the cylinder/crane assembly will slip right out of the frame in one easy motion. On the later (-2) guns, you need to remove the side plate & pull a u-clip out to remove the crane.
Also, another simple design feature with your particular gun is the small knurled ejector rod end (unless someone has changed yours). The early 'Chops didn't have the larger mushroomed rod end that the later (-1 & -2) guns have, the early ones have a small knurled end. So you don't even have to unscrew the rod from the ejector to get the cylinder off the crane, you can simply pull it off once the crane is out of the frame.
The changed this to the mushroom style later, because magazine writers complained that it felt like a nail hitting their palm when they tried to eject spent cases rapidly. I must agree, it can sometimes feel like a nail...it's even got a point on it. The mushroomed ends are much more comfortable to use.

It dawned on me that I need to eat my words here. The box labels on the later (-1) models have the barrels listed in their actual length. I had forgotten that & wanted to try to set the record straight.
They say the mind is the first to go & mine went.
