Found a good deal on a .357, 6"  Not sure of model number.  Mondson, Mass stamping, serial number ends in 33, starts with 12.  I am looking for help with the model number and some good general manul type information.  Also, the gun came without any tools for barrel removal.  Best tools are? . . .   Am also considering a set of pachmeyer [spelling] grips for shooting, will keep wood set in case I sell or trade.  Which pach grips would fit?

Lackmond-

Welcome to DWF. To help get you started:

1) Model information is available on the MODELS tab at the top of the Forum.

2) Manuals are available on the ARCHIVES tab at the top of the Forum

3) Pachmayr grips are availble as a "Presentation" grip, a very full grip about the size of a DW Target grip, and "Grippers" a smaller, finger grooved combat style grip, usually pretty hard to find. Hogue also has a combat style grip that is widely available. In any grip you are looking for "small frame or square tang".

4) Best sources for barrel tools, grips, barrels, shrouds, etc, are GunBroker and Ebay, search either one on "dan wesson" keyword

Steve

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

A note on tools: on eBay there is a seller "BlueIrish#" (it's BlueIrish something, I just refer to them as Blue Irish and don't recall the entire handle - you'll see it.)

Anyway, Steve & I (and I'm sure others) have that tool and it is excellent.  BlueIrish auctions them one at a time.  If the one you're looking at sells above your range, wait a day and a new one will appear!  They start at $20 and if you can get 'em for $25 you are truly getting your money's worth.

You will still need a 5/64 hex key for your side cover - but to change barrels, grips & adjust sights at the range , you can't go wrong with this tool.  Keep the tool in your kit and a 5/64 home on your bench!

You can also buy a new tool from DW in Norwich for $43 and they are fine, just not the old style and have a seperate hex key for sights, seperate key for side cover, etc.
