Picked up a DW in .357 Mag, here's the description:
6" barrel, fixed solid blade without colored insert ( no cutout for insert, no pin in end of barrel, only on side), no vent
Gloss blue in color
Adjustable rear sight, allen head screw for vertical adjustment, allen head on right side and flat blade on left side (viewed from rear) for side to side adjustment, no white outlines
Short hammer, 7 serrations
Cylinder release is smooth on side, serrations on top
Monson, Ma built, #523xx serial
Looks like a Model 15, but I can't explain the front sight. Could it be a "frankengun"; target model with service model barrel?
Any help as to model and year would be greatly appreciated. Gun is in excellent condition.

Sounds like an early model 15--the first ones had a solid black front sight blade--any Pics?

I'm pretty sure that the earliest 15-2's (which this would be from the S/N) did not have intrechangeable sights.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Model 15-2 (straight shroud) was introduced in early 1975.
S/N 5127x is documented with a State Registration Form in 1976
S/N 5778x is documented based on an Original Purchaser submission 1975 (inactive Member)
S/N 7261x is documented based on an Original Purchaser submission 1977 (I know this one to be 100% accurate)
S/N 523xx is a pretty safe bet for 1976, but these are all based on purchase dates, no better data is available
