Good morning!
Mike in Phoenix here. I found this pistol pack locally. I don't know anything about it.
Mechanically, the gun is in great shape. Everything is nice and tight. The bluing, however, is in rough shape in several places. I don't suspect rust. I think the foam that was in the original case wasn't very nice to the bluing.
Would somebody please tell me what the model is (is it known just as pistol pack? or did they make several different models that include the pistol pack option?)
I've gotten a quote from a well respected bluing company to re-blue everything for $800
I'm into the pistol pack for $600. Functionally, the gun is in great shape. Does it make sense to re-blue?
What is an approximate value as it sits versus after a re-blue?
The serial number is 211138.
Thanks,

Hi Mike
There is hope, it is not that bad. First thing I would do is look at a few pack listings in this forum. You will notice they all have cloth over the foam. The gun never contacts the foam. It is hard to tell on the rust from pictures. If you purchased the gun to shoot then your first plan should be to make sure more rust does not occur. If it is surface rust and not pitted and the gun is a shooter I would research how to blue a gun and see if it is something you can handle. This would at least protect the gun from more rust. If it is a shooter and not a collector it does not need to be perfect to shoot. I blued my first gun when I was 16. The bluing looks fine to this day. If you have the cash to have the gun refinished by a professional you did buy it for a good price so there is room to invest more into the pack. There are many things on the web to research bluing or the cost to be done by professionals. In my opinion $1400 total for the pack and refinish would be worth it. Packs are only going up in price.

$800 to re-blue it is way too much. WAY too much. Ford's who is reputed to be one of the best on the business would be just over $400. You should be able to find someone off the beaten path to do the job for $300 - $400. Add the $600 you have in it and you have a like-new pack for $1k. Not bad. I'd probably do it.

Ford's did some work for me...I recommend them highly.
Their current rebluing price list is roughly $300 for a revolver with one barrel and $100 each for extra barrels. Overall price depends on which grade of finish you want.
