It's been a while since I've posted, but I am getting back into my DW. I find that iron sights and I don't get along as well as we used to and would like to mount a LER scope on my 15-2. What is the best way to go about this? I have a 6" vented barrel and would like to use one of the old Burris mounts. Do they (and the shroud) hold up to .357 level use? Is there a better way? Any suggestions would be most welcome.

I didn't have any luck using the clamp on style Millett mounts as it marred the shroud and were not very secure (your mileage may vary..) I ended up ordering a barrel assembly from DW and had Bob drill n tap the shroud and install their scope base. ROCK SOLID
I have a 8" scoped 357 stainless assembly and a 10" 44 mag stainless scoped assembly.
You could always ship your shroud to Bob and have him install the scope base. Save you some money if you don't mind tapping the old shroud. I'm a shooter not a collector so I don't care but everyone is different.
Here's a link to my scoped 744

I don't have any pics up of my 715 at the moment.
Bob charges $40 to drill and tap and scope base is $49 plus return shipping.
Yeah it might be costlier than a clamp on mount but it will NEVER move and it looks great.
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. The mount I was looking at is an older Burris type, but in really nice shape. It's not inexpensive though. I don't want to tap the shroud I have, but I could pick up a used one and have it tapped... probably for less than the Burris mount. What rings and bases did you use?

Yeah all of the clamp-on scope mounts are super expensive and many sit high which means the scope sits even higher which I don't like. That's why I gave up and bit the bullet and bought a new barrel assembly to be drilled and tapped.
I'm using the DW scope base (see photos in thread linked above if interested). I had my local smith cerakote the scope base so everything matches... The rings I'm using are silver Leupold Rifleman low rings. Had to get silver to match the rest of the gun hahah. I will say that I needed to put some anti-slip tape inside the scope rings to prevent the scope from slipping under recoil. It was more of a problem with the 44 mag recoil but I did it with my 715 as well.
