I like the Ballistics by the Inch website for the way you can compare the effects of various loads and barrel lengths on muzzle velocity. I particularly like the real world guns section, but they tend to compare different brands of guns, which skews the results. It occurred to me that Dan Wesson revolvers offer a fairly unique opportunity to get real world measurements of MV in the same gun with different barrels. Has anyone here done chronograph tests with the same ammo and different length barrels on their gun? I searched the forum and didn't find anything like that. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Not exactly what you were asking about, but I did chronograph some 357 & 44 Magnum loads here:
https://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/revolvers/nice-group-with-new-ewk-barrel/
The part that you may find interesting was the difference in velocity between a 6 inch revolver barrel, and a 20 inch long barreled lever action:
44 Magnum REVOLVER
————————————-
Federal Factory 240 grain 44 Magnum JHP (for a production ammunition baseline)
Test revolver is a Dan Wesson 445 Super Mag w/6 inch barrel assembly.
1315 FPS – Low
1389 FPS – High
Average Velocity: 1352 FPS
————————————-
44 Magnum RIFLE
————————————–
Federal 240 grain 44 Magnum JHP (Lever Action Rifle)
Test rifle is a Henry lever action 44 Magnum with a 20 inch barrel.
1733 FPS – Low
1763 FPS – High
Average Velocity 1748 FPS
————————————-
I was working up a hand load comparable to factory velocity at the time.
Sadly I did not check and compare the velocity from say a 2 inch, 4inch, 6 inch, and 8 inch barrel assembly. It would be an interesting and exhausting test to perform however.

Interesting you should ask about this. I thought about doing this as a project yesterday. It'll have to wait till spring though as the cold will keep me from the range till then. Hopefully I'll be able to get the time (and ambition) to do the work. If so I'll work up some kind of report and see if I can stir the pot a bit.

Most written is a 25-30 fps difference per inch as a guideline. Some tests with certain rifles, calibers and loads have given different results. Even the same load with firearms of the same model give different results. Bullwolf's example is around 28.X fps which seems to agree. But with two other guns, who knows.
