After i got my dan wesson 15-2vh6, the guy i bought it from called and said he found more parts for it in his dads stuff. it was another barrel and some other things and did i want it?
So it was a vh4 barrel and the barrel removing tool and an extra rear sight, and i got that stuff for $50. i knew from what i had seen here that it was a really great price for the extras!
So heres waht i have now
The sight is a "millet" and i think it is on the gun, it has a nice white outline and the old one is in the box. so altogether this was $325. this is my first revolver i have mostly auto pistols so i have a lot to learn. this gun is clean but old and has not been shot in a long time (the guy who sold it said his dad has not shot any pistols in about 20 years). should i do anything special before i shoot it.
Sorry i am not too good with pictures and computers together but i saw that you really like pictures so i did my best

Veery nice deal--the millett by itself is worth the $50 !!!
Many of us believe the 15-2 with the VH4 barrel is the perfect gun. It looks very well taken care of and clean. You could pull it apart and lube it up ifyou think it needs it.
All I would check is that the barrel gap is .006 and make sure the barrel is on snug (snug, not TIGHT)...

I am not sure what pull the side plate off means. i can see what it is but i am not ok with doing that because i am not sure i will get it all put back together ok. i will tear down my kimber or my glock but i do not know enough about the dan wessons to be comfortable. help?
Check out Shoot's thread on cleaning up the insides of your small-frame DW. VERY informative and yes, you can do it.

Now that is the way to start with Dan's! Great buy and I think you should take it out and shoot it. Check the gap first as said then fire away.
Order up an new wrench from EWK as the old plastic ones are not very stout!
Pick up some Fo sights for the old Dan too. it is already dressed up with grips and HV.
Keep us posted.

C5rider, thanks for that information. i used it to clean inside, but i did not remove many parts or do any of the polishing. it was not really dirty inside but there was some really old lube and powder residue really packed into some places. i am really surprised at what a difference this made.
There is just so much here that it's going to take a long time, i just spend a half hour here every day or so getting to know the members and looking around, i don't post too much.
That average joe tuneup is very good, you only usually find that kind of thing on 1911 sites that is done so well with the pictures and the good descriptions.

Gotsomeguns,
that's what it's all about, helping others enjoy this sport and learn more through each other's experiences. Glad it helped!
That's what the spirit of the is all about. It's inspiring to watch this rudimentary feeling being spread here, in a healthy "paid forward" sort of way. Not all gun forums can claim such a genuinely interested & down to earth member base. That's what we're all about here, keep it up!
