My blue steel DW Model 14-1 (serial # 34619), with its 3.75" barrel, makes for a real neat, compact off-duty piece. The strength and weight of the DW 14-1 design gives me the added advantage of controlled double-action fire. The gun is so strong, accurate beyond-belief, and digests magnums with no reflux! With the old DW round-butt service grips my compact 14-1 conceals very well with the "Uncle Mikes" inside-the-belt holster I have. The barrel length (3.75") and weight (38 oz.) allows me (some) leeway in recoil; very, very vital in an up-front deadly confrontation with some slobbering bridge troll looking to separate you and yours from the living! Gosh, I hope this nightmare NEVER comes a-knocking!

As a law enforcement officer I never leave home, now-a-days, without being armed. We live in an uncertain world filled with evil! From being a lawman for many years I have watched "The Job" change here and across the country. From being a cop in the early 70's to social worker/report taker status in 2012. It is my firm, steadfast belief that history is being repeated in this great nation. I earnestly pray that I am mistaken in my analysis that the "Fall of Rome" centuries earlier to the "Fall of America" in the here and now. There are sometimes when utter chaos and mayhem in the streets seem to rule-the-day here in Columbus (sometimes) and in the streets of our biggest cities. This kinda/sorta reminds me of reading about the hordes of foreigners/barbarians who ransacked the City of Rome and other areas of the Roman Empire seeking to take its treasure by deadly force and coersion. My friends, I didn't mean to go off on a tangent here but my DW 14-1 goes with me off-duty because I am too old to fist fight now and these cats, now-a-days, play for keeps!  My old Dan Wesson balances the ledger sheet for the old man when he is out of uniform and away from Fort Apache (Where I am now. In the rear with the gear!) My 14-1 was bought for a song at a favorite hangout of mine; a local gun-selling pawnshop with old soldiers manning the gun department. The cost was 150-dollars about 9-years ago.

Many thanks to the leadership of this fine website for your efforts, hard work and dedication to keeping the Dan Wesson Revolver alive. Thanks for allowing me a place at the table here fine sirs!

Sincerely and respectfully,

Thumbs up as was said hope your wrong, but prepared otherwise.

Sadly, I don't think a fall of the US would be from armed invaders. Instead it will be the moral decay that slowly changes us into something else. Something weak and without merit.

I work with several (ok 2) co-workers, one from India and one from China. Both think the US is great (compared to thier respective homeland), but I have the distinct feeling that they miss WHAT makes us great. They seem to think that a government somhow magically makes people want to do the right thing. That being an american somehow turn us in moral upstanding citizens. I do not think it does, our culture (yes as a  judeo-christian) rooted nation does. We do the "right" thing not because the government will get us... we do it for all the other reasons to do so.  I can see it in thier eyes, I can hear in thier words. The government is what makes the US great.... and they hope to have that .... yet they can't see that it is the people that make the US ... because great/good people make a good goverment.   I haven't seen any great leaders in the US for a while now.

yeck what a downer....

Time to go to the range.

Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box

in that order.

David-

I appreciate and enjoy every post you have put up here. America is a place where each of us must stake our claim, and be ready and able to stand up for what is ours. We define what is ours, society does not. I understand your characterization of "off duty" in the LEO sense.

As a Citizen, I'm never "off duty", and I know that no true American Citizen is either, not David, not Steve, not Jody, Grant, Lawrence, Mike, Dave, Eric, Dean, Ron, and so many more names than can possibly be listed (please don't hate me for not listing your name, the list of American Patriots is blessedly endless).

Always Stand Ready

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Exceptional thoughts, you guys.

I agree that our eventual downfall will likely be from the slow internal erosion that was started in motion around the turn of the 20th century. There have been a few repairs to that erosion through the years, but it hasn't been enough to be a permanent fix.

I'm not giving up though, not by a long shot. This land is my home & those who oppose the ways, principles & overall plan that our founding fathers laid out, need to have their heads examined.

Thanks for sharing your thought and your years in service.

I am never unarmed outside the house.I now need to be armed when doing yardwork, and I don't live in a bad neighborhood...the BGs are just roaming further out. I do not even open the front door at night…intercom doorbell. We live in different times.
