Shortly after my November 1997 purchase of a DW Model 11, and a few short sessions at the PD Firing Range, I became enamored with the Dan Wesson Six-gun. I had (still do) some wonderful Sundays engaging in some matches held by the PD for local law enforcement. The 11 was my first and later a 14-1. Both gave excellent service and for a fella who had shot many cop revolvers, primarily Colts, Smiths, Rugers and a few Taurus sixguns. All four-inchers in .38/357 calibers and fixed sights for the most part. I had been shooting this type of handgun hardware for many years before being infected with the DW bug, and that is a good infection! I had NEVER owned a DW six-gun before 1997 as this gun was not marketed much here in the deep south. That is a shame too, because the design and accuracy was/is superb!
Several years ago I got a call from one of my old soldier buds, who worked the gun counter at my favorite pawnshop. He had took in a DW .357 and wanted to know if I was interested. He told me, not being too familiar with the DW line, that it was blue steel and had fixed sights and the barrel was a four-inch one. Well, it was rare for a "Dan" to come in then, even rarer now, so I hot-footed it on down there for a look-see. He saw me-a-coming 5-miles away and already had the paperwork the feds require waiting on the counter. He knew me well and knew what floated-my-boat in handguns and after a quick exam a price was set (160-dollars out-the-door). Paper work filled out, stash for a rainy-day money transferred to my friend and away down the road I went! Just as happy as a hawg-to-the-waller! I had me-a-new-Dan! One, I had seen only in gun magazines and firearm resources; a Dan Wesson Model 14-2 series with a four-inch barrel and in blue steel. It had Hogue black rubber finger-groove grips on at the time, which fit my arthritic gun hand just fine. I could see the the design change between my previously purchased 14-1 and this one while standing in the pawnshop jaw-jabbing over the cost. But because a lack of marketing of this type cop sixgun (DW 14-1&2 Models) down here I was a late-bloomer to the DW. I left the Hogue Grips on and test-fired my new Dan with some .38 reloads (wads, semi-wads, LRN) and my newest Dan seem to like all three. Just like my old DW Model 11, it (14-2) cloverleafed from 45-feet away seated inside a pistol perch using wads & LRN .38's. Each time I do this, first time out with a new Dan, I get a tazer-charge of excitement as I single-action that hammer back and squeeze the trigger for a round dark-spot (bullseye) hit on the target.
Well, my friends, I think you can tell from my kid-like description of my 14-2 I WUZ PLEASED! Big time! It was too late in my cop career to change my primary duty revolver (Colt Official Police .38) over to one of my three fixed sight DW's for duty carry. I couldn't, wouldn't because of the origin of my Colt and the loving caring parents who gave it to me so many years ago now (Christmas Eve 1971). I carry it, been grand-fathered in with it for a lot of years now and NO other sixgun would ever take its place. But if one could, one of my Dans would get the call. Shoot em in the matches for sure but when I dress up (uniform) and report for work at the in-famous Fort Apache my 1959-vintage Colt OP is standing proud! Just an old sentimental fella hanging on to something very "precious" to me gentlemen. I owe my loving parents so much!
Respectfully;
David
