Steve, I have a similar story. After buying a handful of guns for the first time in 2012 after OBummer was reelected I saw a Pistol pack in a LGS. By the time I researched it and went back to get it the unfired pack had sold for $900. I found a couple of 15-2s at other stores and then discovered Gunbroker. I have over 200 now. All sizes and calibers. Also lots of Smiths, Korths, Manurhins, and other Revolvers.

I too have slowed down while a gun room addition is built. The wife wants the bedroom back. And the laundry room, closets, etc. I plan on selling a bunch to upgrade. Also have parts, grips, BAs, cylinder assemblies galore.

Wow!  I wish that I had the disposable income to buy 200 guns.   However, I'm not a collector so I'd want 200 different guns.

That was 200 Dan Wessons. I also have Smiths, Manurhins, Korth, Erma-Werke, Charter Arms, Taurus, and a slew of Semi autos. I could have put the money in the stock market or bonds( have that too) but the guns I can control, leave to heirs without taxation , has no property taxes, keeps up with inflation and more, and I can fondle them😏.

“…and I can fondle them” Yes!  An investment you can use/shoot, enjoy, touch, fondle, show off, and likely make money…especially if you keep them for a long time.

Investing in precious metals is always a good idea!

It would never work for me as an investment because I find that I am unable to sell a gun.

Investment is the terminology you use to “justify” firearms purchases, not only to yourself, but a spouse. lol2

Gold and silver have a 28% capital gains tax. A couple of gold coins fly under the radar but if any sizable amount or an index fund gets reported to the IRS.

I've heard that anti gun SOB Stephen King has one of the largest gun collections on the east coast... I wonder why...

He lives in Sarasota FL and I know people who work on his house.

Simple, "guns for me but not for thee."  I found a quote for him that semi-autos allow us to go on a testosterone jag and yell "yee-haw."  Odd, I've never yelled "yee-haw" while shooting.

Still have my first DW 15-2V, bought as a complete pistol pac back in the late 1980's with all 4 barrels at a LGS, including a raw walnut blank to make your own grips.  Collectors will hate me, but I am a shooter so I sold off all the barrels but the 6",  and ended up with more than the whole pac set cost.  I then sold the case and accessories, so I'm up a few hundred, plus I have a free revolver with a 6" V barrel and shroud, and it is a tack driver.  I then bought an orphan shroud and had it drilled and tapped for Buehler bases, and now have a scoped 15-2V with a Burris 3x EER.  I've since bought 2 stainless guns, a 715 and a 741, both with 8" barrels.  Neither shoots as well as my original blued gun, at least with the tuning I've been able to do on them so far. But I'm comparing scoped to unscoped, so that may well account for all the difference.  Took the 741 wild boar hunting last year in Tennessee and worked up a pretty good load with 240 gr SWC-GC's.  Couldnt find a boar to suit me, so I never pulled the trigger.  Been quite a ride these past 40 years. Enjoy!

Yes it's not as easy to sell a gun. Gold & silver you can just take it to a coin shop or other places and they will pay spot or a little under spot for your metal though if you cash in over $10k then a form must be filled out. You could go to several different places and sell it that way. Guns are a different story. You have to place a and, dicker with a seller, ship the gun sometimes thru a FFL but always to a FFL unless it's a face to face sale depending on which state you're in. AZ you can just meet, make sure someone is of legal age and that's it but Dan Wessons are another story. Selling them local is hard. There is such a small amount of people interested in them that you really have to use a site like Gunbroker or Guns International (my favorite since there is no record of sale and it's just a flat $20 fee to list a gun) though it takes a bit longer to sell a Dan on GI. I have bought most of my collection as investments (though I have some shooters) that also bring me joy (ITBMJ) but also have upgraded several of my guns. I made a lot of mistakes early on and then like to upgrade calibers. I do not have near the amount as others I think my Dan Net Worth (DNW) is around 55K but also have made several excellent deals where right place at the right time has served me well! Enjoying the ride for the most part! Like making cases for people. Now my next project of making Norwich boxes and stickers are almost done! Stay tuned for that!
