I picked up this DW today. I really wanted a .41 magnum, so I bought this one even though it has a real “Plum” color frame. It came with an 8″ and 6″ barrel, and 2 spare 6″ barrels, extra barrel nut,  gauge and barrel tool . The fellow through in about 70 rounds of ammo. It is a Monson mfgr. I gave $550. for everything. I don't know if that was a fair price, but the 41's seem like they are hard to find. Here's some pics of it.

  I need your honest opinions!

Hey Old Gun Guy,

Several things (not necessarily in order of importance):

1)Welcome to the DWF!

2) Thank you for your service and sacrifice for our country. Proud To Be An American

3) That was really not a fair deal on the .41 mag.  It was more like an outstanding deal.  I could overlook a lot of “Barney” for the price you paid.  I'm not sure if it ascends to “Grand Theft Dan Wesson” but it's close and we'll let the other guys weigh in on that…we've got a lot of .41 mag afficionado's here…

4) Interesting to see that the 6" barrel appears to be the original (monson) and the 8" with the laser engraving is of Norwich mfg and fairly new.

Congrats on a super purchase and we are real happy to have you aboard.

Edit: Ok, after some more thought, GTDW!!

Old Gun Guy I would have to say you got a hell of a deal. Yours doesn't seem to be too plummed (I've seen worse). The finish is what I call a blurple. Gorgeous gunDrool I absolutely love those pachmayr grips.

Interesting observations:

-Your 8"VH shroud seems to be of Norwich or Palmer descent (which one i don't know)

-On one of your barrels in your first picture it reads "41 CAL 1.18 75 /A-1"

it shows caliber and twist rate, but what does A-1 mean?

-Your revolver has a C in front of it's serial #

Thanks for the welcome and the info.  My question should have been; Do the DW revolvers manufactured at these different plants vary in quality? I was always told that the Monson produced revolvers were what to look for. Any thoughts on this?

OGG...nice to have you here!  Welcome

I'd say you got a great deal there, with the ammo and the extra barrels. The .41 Magnum is my favorite revolver cartridge, and I have a bunch of them. They ARE more scarce to find in the Dan Wessons.

The Monson guns were good, but even then, many of them went home to the factory to be rebuilt. Once that was done, they were excellent. The Palmer guns MAY have some quality control problems, due to the aging equipment used to make them. I've seen some very nice ones, and a few less than nice ones. The NY guns were all made on new CNC equipment...very nicely fit and finished. You just have to look at each one.

Are you a reloader? We can fix you up with some good .41 recipes.

Old gun guy,

Another Welcome to our forum.  I think to you scored a great deal on the package.  The extra barrels alone at the current prices are worth a chunk of money.  I jst spent some time shooting my DW .41 yesterday.  It is quite a pleasurable round to shoot.  You must give us a range report when you have had an opportunity to go shoot your new find.

Welcome to the mad house OGG, You done good with the 41. I need to add one to my collection. We have a CRA group here,(check the acronym list to the right in the FAQs section) but I have been thinking of starting a Barney club, so you will fit right in. Welcome again and thanks for your service.

Nice score and a great deal!  My .41 is from the "other" wesson and I love it.

My .22 and .357 show very little barney...the .44 shows it some.  Doesn't harm the bang!

I just sold my model 14 and if you arent happy with that deal ----- well anyone on here would just about die to find that cal. with those barrels and such. I know I'd sell my car to get the cash and ride a bike to the range to shoot it.

Welcome  OGG!

While some might not think it, I think that price is definitely GTDW.  Never was Jiminy Cricket more correct (see signature block).

My stainless .41 with 6 and 8 inch vented heavy barrels cost 2.5 times as much.

Welcome and what a deal.  If you want to get rid of the Barny effect, check out our bluer guy on this website.  I had mine done at DW/CZ along with other work.  They did excellent repair work and good bluing, but the site guy does better work for less I hear.

Thanks for your input and info. I don't reload any rounds, but I appreciate the offer. I will eventually get this "Barney" re-blued, and I'll look up the "site guy".
