Hi everyone. I only just joined the forum a few days ago on the advice of a fellow forum member over on the S&W forum. I just picked up my first Dan yesterday after a long week of looking at pictures of it. I had to drive across the state after work to get it, and didn’t get home until almost 10:00. Well worth the drive, though.
It’s an 8” 741 with a full lug shroud, and absolutely stunning! I’ve been around S&W revolvers for over 50 years and started seriously collecting them about 20 years ago, but interestingly, have never even handled a DW! I did own a 1911 Valor for a few years back in the early 2000’s, but that was my only exposure to the DW world.
Along with the revolver, I got a custom shoulder holster made by Idaho Leather, three barrel wrenches, feeler gauges, about 880 rounds of reloads in plastic MTM boxes (mix of HP, SP, and range fodder), approximately 300 210 gr. XTP’s, 400 once fired primed cases, 200 Winchester new and 100 Starline new cases, RCBS dies, Lee FCD, four HK speedloaders, Lewis Lead Remover tool, and a Hogue monogrip. I already have several hundred rounds that I loaded for my S&W .41 Mags, so I don’t think I’m ever gonna run out of brass! It’s going to a real chore to pull down all of those reloads. I’m thinking of taking 5 random rounds from each box, pulling them down and weighing the charges, and if they’re all good, just shooting the rest of them. What do you all think of that idea? I know the CW..,never shoot another mans reloads.
I hope to get to the range this weekend sometime and try it out. I’ll just be shooting my own reloads, so I’m safe. I’ll post a range report when I’m done.
Cheers and thanking everyone again for the warm and cordial welcome I received over in the new member introduction section.

Hammers Stainless Silver Red Dot Scope Base Rail Mount for Dan Wesson Vent Rib Barrel Revolver
It looks like a virtual clone of the first mount talked about in the scope mounting thread, the B-Square mount. Does anyone have any experience with it?
I feel this revolver is just begging for a scope. I love shooting medium range (75-100 yards) off a rest with scope mounted and up until now my longest tube is 6.5” on my S&W 610. I’m looking forward to trying out the 8” with it’s better inherent accuracy.
Here’s a picture of one of my 610’s with a scope on it.

I would like to mount a scope on it, either a red dot type or optical. I’ve been reading through “The official DW scope mount thread” and it’s not quite so cut and dry as it is with some other brands. I found one on Amazon:Hammers Stainless Silver Red Dot Scope Base Rail Mount for Dan Wesson Vent Rib Barrel Revolver

If you are going with a weaver rail drilled and tapped, Dan Wesson still has Dan Wesson stamped rails for sale. Blue steel only so you would need to have it hard-chromed to somewhat match stainless.

I looked on their website and didn’t see anything, so I emailed them. Do you have a link to the stamped rail?

What is the model # on the holster? I have never seen one like it, I would love to find one for myself!Oh, and congrats on finding your 741, that is for sure a sweet looking example.
Charger Fan, sorry I didn’t get that info to you yet. The last couple of days I’ve been preparing for a business project, and now I’m down In Puerto Rico working on the project. I’ll be back home in a week and I’ll take some more pictures of the holster and post them with the model #.

I’m finally getting around to posting the picture of the holster info for Charger Fan…my apologies; after my Puerto Rico fiasco I had short notice trips to Houston, Indy, Dallas, and now I’m leaving for Memphis early I the morning…busy summer so far. On a positive note, I was able to take in my first Indy 500 on the tail end of my Indy trip and in Dallas last week, I drove up to the S&W Collectors Association Symposium, so time not wasted:-)
Anyway, I digress. The holster appears to be a model 410…I’m not sure about the last digit. It’s hard to tell. Looks almost like a 5 or 6 was stamped over a smaller zero. Under the company logo is DW, then an “8” under that for 8 inch. Look at the picture to be sure.

Re pulling down reloads & weighing charge.OK you now have a charge weight. What kind of powder is it? How do you positively I.D it?
Don’t have to identify it, I was just talking about doing a comparison between charge weights to establish consistency. As long as the charge weights are all equal across several random rounds from each box, I should be good to go.

OK I get that.
My point was you seemed concerned about using someone else's reloads for possible safety reasons.
Without knowing what exactly the powder is the weight is kinda pointless for that need?
For consistency yes you're right.

He had it listed as 2400. I’ve compared it to some 2400 I have on hand and it’s identical. The chrono data is consistent for that bullet weight with that charge of 2400 also. I’ve been back to the range with it and shot about 100 rounds of his reloads so far. I have to say the spread on his reloads is a lot closer than what I can normally achieve.
