Dry firing is great practice, one suggestion, one rule
Suggestion: Not really neccessary with revolvers, but use snap caps
Rule: ALL AMMO IS ALWAYS IN A DIFFERENT ROOM (double verify this one)
Pick a target, practice trigger control, breathing, sight picture, etc.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Ditto what Steve said! Dry firing is great practice and the only damagee it could do is possibily break a firing pin which are not real expensive. It usually only happens to the older stile revolvers where the pin is attached to the hammer. Some diehards insist on not doing it but I feel the practice is worth the cost of a firing pin. I have never broken one by the way. I have spent many an evening shooting the television for practice. Pay really close attention to the unloaded part! Have fun.
Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.

Thanks. I shoot at a quarter size spot about 10 feet away. I think it is the difference between pulling a rifle into my shoulder vs stretching the firearm out on it's own. It feels like a muscle memory thing. Also, I forgot to mention, I had a Cabela's Cash Card I got in the mail. I got 100 put on the card for my purchase. So I picked up some ammo, revolver, and holster for right around 300.

I did take it to the range. I put about 60 rds of 38s and 2 rds of Buffalo Bore down range. Took my son, his BB gun, 22 short, 22LR, and 357. The DW lived up to the hype. It was exaclty what I was looking for. A nice smooth firearm that I can shoot all day. The 38s had less recoil than the 22 short. I purchased a DW so I could put a 2 inch brl on it for CCW and a 6-8 in brl for deer hunting. It was worth every penny! I'm going to spend the next week practicing at the house and see what progress I made.
Right or wrong, my goal this last week was to get used to carring/shooting the DW. I wasn't to worried about accuarcy. I wanted to focus on being comfortable. Does anyone have any shooting tips? What works best for you?

Do some research on grip, stance, sight picture, etc. Although he's shooting a 1911, this Todd Jarret video is a good start

This Jerry Miculek stuff is more revolver specific

Both of these guys are among the best in the world at this, they just have great, repeatable basics honed to perfection

You can go back to those links once a month for the next year and say "hey, that makes sense".
Another pistol guy that always makes sense to me is Todd Green. He has always struck me as being very balanced and sensible, and willing to speak the truth. I have this site bookmarked
and I go there more often than anyplace else after DWF. Devoted to pistol shooting, and not much else
