I picked up this Model 14 this morning from my good friend/gunsmith/gunshop owner that handled the FFL transfer. He gave it a look-over, and thinks the gun is NIB. There is no rotation ring, no trace of powder burn anywhere, no tool mark on the barrel nut, not even a fingerprint on it. It came in the original box with paperwork, packing material, and unopened tools. He thinks it's a great find- not a 15 and of course no adjustable sights, but a good gun for HD and range work. I'm happy with his assessment - he's been in the biz for 40 years. He would have liked it for his sales cabinet.
I have a question about grips- I would like to stick with wood, and have seen them on eBay and gunbroker. The ones on this gun are a little 'skimpy'- I would like to get the ones that curl toward the trigger guard and cover a little more of the frame. These grips have a round hole in the bottom with an allen screw holding them on. Will any small-frame DW grips work? Can't wait to get it to the range!
thanks

Yep, any DW small frame grips (square tang) will fit.
There are two different screw lengths. Short for the grips you have and long for the Taget / Presentation / Combat / Sacramento grips. Both screws are still available from DW in Norwich.
What a great find!! That's a Porkchop barrel on that bad boy, so it's pre 1975 & NIB - Wow!!
Scan those documents and send 'em in to Jody at the address listed under the files tab and get 'em posted!
-->Just saw your intro post: Welcome to the forum, it's great to have you on board. Sold my Pistol Pac in 1980 for college...like Steve said...we all got 'em...

Man, that looks really great! Not only is it NIB, but you have all the paperwork too & everything looks in excellent shape. That was a nice find, congrats!
Out of curiosity, was it an online purchase, or did you find it elsewhere?
As Dusty stated, it would sure be great if you could scan your manual & paperwork. Jody's been building an online library of documents & such (in the tabs at the top of your screen), to help answer long burning questions we've all had.

I'll certainly try to scan them for you- it's been ages since I've used that thing, so I'll have to retrain myself on how it works again. If unsuccesful with the scanner, I might be able to get some copies made for those interested.
The gun was found on gunbroker- I contacted the seller immediately after he listed it and he assured me it was in excellent condition, possibly unused, but he was no expert and wasn't sure. I took a risk and optioned to 'buy-it-now'.
I hadn't been having any luck finding a .357 in my price range that was in decent enough condition for my likes (Dan Wesson, S&W 19 or 66, or a Ruger Security Six). This one just looked and felt right, and luckily, it turned out to be a good buy.
