I just received a blue 6" Dan Wesson .357 with a removable barrel that I bought from an online dealer.

He said it is a model 15-2, but I see here on the forum that the 15-2 is a small frame. This thing is pretty big - the same size as my S&W N frames.

So how do I know which model it is? I can't find a model number anywhere.

If you can add a picture it will make it a lot easier to identify. Thanks

The caliber is printed on the barrel shroud and the serial number is on the right side of the frame.

A DW "Small Frame" is a very strong and robust .357 Magnum revolver. In size, it is a Smith K or L frame, and a DW .357 rivals any standard .357 Magnum revolver in terms of frame integrity and strength.

The DW 15/715 is rated for the strongest Buffalo Bore ammunition, my personal experience is that a well maintained small frame DW will manage any responsibly aggressive  .357 Magnum loading.

There are .357 Magnum models in the "N Frame" family, the DW small frame should not be considered a .44 Magnum equivalent.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Here's a pic taken from a webcam - not very good, but hopefully you'll be able to tell what it is. Thanks.

15-2 6". That is the standard shroud, and it has a Pachmayr Presentation grip which would not have been the original grip

And this is a "small" frame? I compared it again to my S&W N frames and they appear to be the same size. It's much larger than my K frames.

So, what is a "large" frame Dan Wesson? Field artillery?

Thanks for the info.

Large Frame would be the .41 magnum, .44 magnum, .45 Colt, etc.

Then you get into the SuperMagnums!

I think if I'm not careful I could get hooked on Dan Wessons.

I don't know how to break this to you, but if you had the thought....... you're hooked!

I want to get a 4" barrel for it. Then I think I'll have it reblued. Even though this one has a standard shroud, can I put another barrel on with a ventilated rib?

Oh yeah how many times have we heard that here!

Yes, you can use any style 15-2 barrel assembly on your frame. Just not a barrel shroud from an older 'porkchop' style like in this pic-
