Hello, Jody sent me to this site for help. I've owned a Dan Wesson Blued (6" interchangable) 357 Mag since the early 80's. I've shot 100's of great rounds through it BUT about every two - three rounds now it misfires. It doesn't strike the primer hard enough to set off the round. You can see the difference in the depth of the ping from a fired round to one that didn't. Is this a main spring problem? If it is how do I replace it. I had my 357 at Gander Mtn. for 8 months waiting for a repair. The "smith" there said, "I can't get parts from my vendor". I have it back now and really would like it to work first time every time. Can anyone give me an address/email to inquire about fixing it? If you can tell me also where I can find 357 ROUNDS I'd like to know that too. I live 5 miles from a Cabella's and they can't seem to keep 357 rounds in stock! No problem finding rounds my 40's, but I like the take down of the 357!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome aboard shooter. Look under Reference Files here and see if it will answer your questions. New springs are available I believe it just may take a little looking. If all else fails CZ/Dan Wesson will hook you up just give them a call. You can get the number from the Other Sights section of this forum. Sorry for no link, I just don't seem to be able to figure that maneuver out yet. As far as ammo goes I think we all feel you pain. It seems everwhere it gets bought up and hoarded as soon as it hits the shelves. You just have to keep searching. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. And if you havent already figured us out we "require" pics here. LOL

My 357 did that to me on one round, last time I shot it...light primer strike & failed to fire. I usually do most of my shooting in single action mode, but the FTF was when I shot a cylinder full in double action...don't know if that had anything to do with it.
So I spun the shell in it's hole & fired it in single action.
I will pobably send mind home to DW sometime soon, because the timing is getting a little loose too & I've decided it needs some loving.
Ammo? Yeah, I too have a hard time finding any.
Is this the section you were thinking of LB?

Good news, if it is springs, it's easy to replace as long as you're careful to replace the parts in the proper order. They are quite simple and with the side plate, easily accessable. As mentioned in other blogs; a thorough cleaning of the internal workings is the 1st try as build-up is usually the number one cause of problems with any revolver. Check for gunk around the firing pin area as well.

Sorry, I sent your post to the wrong place and reported it, my mistake! I did say it was a great idea and hoped it would be a quick fix. Once again sorry for sending to the wrong place!

Welcome to the DWF, Shooter!
As was advised, $4.95 for a brand new spring from Dan Wesson in Norwich, NY. - the old original might be getting tired.
Be sure you check that your grip screw isn't interfering with the sring / hammer. If you 've changed grip or eroded the shoulder of the grip screw hole this could be a problem. Back it out to check &/or add a small washer if the shoulder is eroded.
1/16" punch to knock out the roll pin and release the firing pin. Clean / check for round and free movement, relube, reassemble.
AMMO - my local WalMart is out of everything except Winchester White Box in .357 Mag. If you're just looking for range ammo, check 'em out.
Good to have you as a member! (first time I've gotten to use that...)
