Out traveling around for work today and of course had to stop at the LGS. Found 2 model 15's, both Monson guns, both .357 mag. 8" #7582*, gun is 92 to 94%condition. Only issue was someone had the shroud drilled and tapped for a Bushnell "post" mount system complete with a period 2X Phantom scope... wanted $450.00 (hope I'm allowed to mention that here)
The other is a 4" #26292*, probably at least 94%. $695.00 The 4" grips seem larger than the 8", DW crest inlay, high gloss finis, the 8" has a set of Houges on it.
What y'all think?

So okay. I'm learning. Why do we think both guns are "pork chop" models? Because their Monson made? I have a 8" Monson that isn't a pork chop. Is there a difference in quality between pork chop and standard frame?
And as long as I'm showing my ignorance. Were there any models made with double action only? Are the physical length of the cylinders for the 38 Special and 357 Magnum the same just the holes are reamed differently?
Thanks

Because he said model 15, not 15-2. Look here for differences in models.

OK, so being a Dan Wesson neophyte here, what is a pork chop? Or should we call it meat loaf? The dealer has them listed as a model 15. Who is saying he is right. That is why I ask the question I did. Any way way to tell what Model it is from the serial number? Educate me please.....Thanks, Jack

Assuming the "stars" after the serial numbers you listed indicate another digit; neither gun is a "pork chop". There has never been an 8 in. pork chop as far as anyone knows anyhow, so the 8 in. gun would be an early 15-2 probably made around 1976. The 4 in. gun is a much later 15-2. I don't think the price on either gun is out of line assuming they are in good condition. Unfortunate that the shroud on the 8 in. has been altered to accommodate the scope (hence the lower price). The original DW wood grips on the 4 in. gun are indeed larger than most aftermarket grips. Just depends on what you prefer. The dealer listing them as model 15's is a forgivable error as DW's aren't that common. The quality of the pork chop frames is no different than the later guns; just a slightly different design.
