I picked up a 14-2 a couple of years ago at a pawn shop. Didn't know anything about DW, just looking for a used revolver for carry. On research I found I had made a pretty good purchase at $275. Has no equipment with it. Researching serial number appears to be made 1979-80 area. I shoot it every month at the range. Groups okay for a 2.5 in. barrel I guess; still trying to improve triigger squeeze and grip.
Any advice from anyone on upkeep, parts, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks.

Lovely.
First: get a barrel wrench and .002 barrel-adjusting shim from EWK Arms.
Second: clean it very well each time you use it; you might even want to take the side plate of and clean the inside once.
When you set the barrel gap, you will have to fine the tightest fitting position (since your gun was Monson made) and set the gap at that position. Originally DW included a .006 shim with weapon. Then with the SuperMags they changed to .002. I shoot all my Dan's at .002. Just be sure to set the gap at the tightest position or you will probably have it bind at the range. Of course, if you set the gap at .006 it won't matter because there isn't that much variance, but it won't be as accurate either.

Greg, I'm an expert on several things. Food and wine(I was an upscale restauranteur), a bonsai grower and a history maven.I am a newcomer to firearms but I have discovered that there are more firearms experts than any other human endeavor. For five hundred years the fate of nations and empires has rested on firearms expertise. With that being said , there are some real experts in the forum. Not me, but: get a barrel tool and allen wrenches. EWK for the barrel tool. Autoparts store for wrenches and feeler gauges. Read the "average Joe tuneup".Do what you feel comfortable doing. I recommend removing the grip with a hex wrench, opening the side plate and cleaning the inside and parts. Order the reduced power Wolff springs and small parts kit from EWK. Replace the small parts and use the 8lb. mainspring.(not the 7.5lb.) You can always polish and reblue later.I use ATF (automobile) for the lockwork but dry the parts of excess fluid. It works good on the exterior too. When replacing the hand make sure the trigger return spring is on the little ledge on the trigger and held there by the hand. Hold your lips just right as you replace the sideplate so as to not move the hand. If the hand gets moved you have to open it up again till you get it to stay and hold the trigger return spring in place. Remove the barrel nut with the tool. Remove the shroud and unscrew the barrel tube. Apply ATF or gun oil and scrub the threads of the tube, nut and frame.Put the grip on(with a little vasoline on the grip tang for the rubber grip) and tighten just enough to hold the grip on. If it is too tight tje hammer will not stay back in single action. DA may have light strikes too. Screw in the barrel with the cylinder open. Screw in as far as the threads will go and back out flush with the frame. Close the cylinder and set the barrel gap on the proudest cylinder( the one closest to the forcing cone(end of the barrel) The factory setting is .006.That may be to much if your cylinfer face is not perpendicular. .003 or .004 on the tightest of the six chambers should be good. The shim should slide out easily without pushing the cylinder to the rear. This took me so long to write that this info may be redundent. When you are done your gun will feel new and the new springs will make a big difference in DA. Welcome to the forum. BTW, you'll want some longer barrel assemblies and some pretty wood grips. Have fun, Ole Dog
