Here are 2 PICS:
HELP, I need the opinions of you DW experts! I'm looking to buy a Monson made DW 744 stainless 44 mag with a 4" and 6" barrel, no tool (but I hear those are cheap and easy to come by). Seller says it's in "great" shape and has been shot 250 – 300 rounds total. He says he'll give it to me for $700. Is this a good deal and will this gun appreciate in value? I NEED TO KNOW IF THIS IS A GOOD BUY OR NOT! Please respond with your feedback. MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
This is my first revolver purchase so I want this new relationship to be "just right"

At this time that is not a bad deal! Prices on these are like anything else supply and demand! the 744 is a great gun and others barrel lengths can be had as well as the tools! Blue book would give you a starting point and if you have had it in hand then this would be another plus. know that 8" and 10" ba's can be found as well as ported and non ported barrels. Pics would help as to help here!
Welcome and I hope you become the new owner of a Dan!

I would say it's a fair (on both sides) deal in today's market. DWA covered everything else. You may find a better deal, but you'll have to keep looking. What is your time worth? A few boxes of ammo? Well then, buy it and start shooting!

I think its a pretty good deal, as long as it's a nice gun with no problems or issues. I just recently bought a very nice 744 for $500 and I am happy with that price. If you get a 4" barrel it is worth at least the other $200, I see 4" .44 barrels go really high on Gunbroker.
Just my opinion.

to the forum. Dan's are great guns. It sounds like a decent deal, as long as it doesn't have any issues. To be a cynic, sellers almost always say a gun is in great shape. I'm guessing they mean it, but they just don't really know. For example, how does the seller know it has only 250 to 300 rounds through it? If it has had one owner all its life, that guy may know. After that it's a guess. At the very least, it will probably need a good cleaning and a new set of springs. That's easy to do and relatively cheap. I suggest you read this thread, https://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/revolvers/revolver-checkout-how-to-tell-if-a-particular-specimen-is-any-good
I'm assuming you can physically inspect the gun before you buy. If not, be careful. I bought a gun that I suspected had issues. The seller said it was in good shape. It looked good but it wasn't in good shape. Now I got it at a very good price and have enjoyed tremendously taking it apart and working on it. I'm glad I got the gun, but I got it at a very good price.
I don't mean to be negative. Dan's are great guns and if I had $700, a deal like that would definitely have my interest. In fact, I'd probably . A 744 is on my list and Dan's are so well built that with a little care they should last lifetimes. Get a look at it, inspect the bores, test the lockup and the action. Oh heck,
. They are great guns! And pics, we want pics.
HTH!

Looks good to me too. Test the lockup and look closely at the ejector star. If it really has only 250 rounds through it, there should be minimal if any wear there. Most likely that is a .
If you do get it, I suggest resisting the urge to polish it. That looks to me like the factory finish which isn't particularly shiny. I polished mine and while I like it, it's a lot of work. Mine stainless is a bit of a beater so I didn't mind experimenting with it. That one looks too nice to change its finish (just my opinion.)

OK, time for an update. First of all, a big THANK YOU to everyone who posted on this thread and helped me make my decision.
Not only did I get this stainless DW 744, but I bought a SECOND 744 blue Pistol Pack!!! This blued beauty was displayed on consignment for less than 2 hours before I told the owner of the shop to pack it up because It's mine :). I figure it was a sign from God because I walked it right after the seller listed it on consignment. Coincidence? I think not!
It comes with 8" & 6" barrels, tool, 4 grips, all documents, very cool belt buckle, patch and the briefcase. It is in excellent like new condition and was fired very little. Got it for $600.
Now I own 3 dan wessons and couldn't be happier: two .44 mags, and the CBOB 1911. Now i want a .357 and .22lr.
