Does anyone know of good DW gunsmiths who are competent and reasonably priced? That "SAO" 22 that I have doesn't appear to be an SAO gun (since it lacks the requisite "6" in front of the serial #). Furthermore, I may ask that same smith to smooth out some actions on my other DWs. Thanks DW41F.

This guy has a pretty good reputation, but he's also very busy.

Grant doesn't do Dans any more, but if you call, maybe he'll make an exception?
I've used Cylider and Slide in Freemont, NE for other wheelguns and they do a nice job. http://www.cylinder-slide.com/

I am not sure what "6" you speak of, my records show many SAO 22s and no "6" involved ?

That's a negative. I tried him before I ended up sending my 15s back to DW for repairs. I didn't try cylinder and slide, however. Honestly, the factory's probably the way to go. I get the impression DW parts are hard to find for us so it stands to reason that the best bet would be the one place that still makes em!

For a troubleshoot and fix a problem, I agree that the Norwich factory repair might be best. It will possibly be a lengthy and not inexpensive process. Have you exhausted all the "self fix" options?
You can do as good a job of tuning and smoothing an otherwise functioning DW as any gunsmith, through the resources here, if you have average mechanical aptitude and some patience.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
