I'm a dealer/collector. I've got this Dan Wesson model 15 in my shop that I need to chase the barrel threads on. I know it's a 17/32x40 thread. The problem is you can't find one any where. I thought I'd take a chance here on the forum in case someone has run into the same issue. I've emailed EWK asking if I can send the frame to him. Just waiting on a response. Does anyone know where I could find a 17/32x40 tap? Or someone I could send this frame to?

There's one on ebay, but its 168 bucks!
I found a few sites that will make you one, but for a single use, probably easier to send it to Dan Wesson and have the threads chased.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Got a link for the tap on ebay? I can't seem to find it.
A buddy tells me he might know a local guy who could do the job. Waiting on him to get back with me.
EDIT*** I did find a tap on ebay. $151.28 and $6 shipping.

That was the one, but it had a little higher price. Will this tap only work on small frames?
Pretty certain that's correct Scorpio. I believe the large frame is a different dimension altogether.
I emailed the guy on ebay to confirm the tap he's listed is indeed a 17/32-40. He replied back yes it is correct. I've paid more for gunsmithing tools for my shop.
I don't mind spending the $ if there's hope to make it up on the back end offering the service to those who need it.
I've been working on the barrel/frame the past couple hours. Going back and forth after generous amounts of moly grease applied to the threads. I've got the barrel threading easily in by hand up to the last 3 or 4 threads. I've made headway for sure. When I began it would only thread in about 1/4". Dunno if I can get these last few threads or not. She's tight and building heat.

I see "small frame" used a lot in this thread. It is my understanding that the .357 threads are different from the .22 threads: both on small frames.
I bought a of couple of ss .22 barrels for my DW from CZ some time back. They are a couple of threads short of fitting correctly into the frame.

I just spent well over an hour searching this forum for any historical threads on this topic, found many threads discussing various barrel thread pitches and frame compatibilities, but none of them specifically discussed the .22 barrel & frame options. I am looking forward to someone with accurate/correct knowledge to respond to this question. I’m ready for schooling.

.22: Major Thread Diameter is .494" and the most precise fraction you can get is to 63/128" and the thread count is 40 TPI so: 63/128-40. This is definitely in the custom tap and die arena, if you don't have the machinist skills to do it otherwise.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

I use lapping compound on the threads for this type of job, not grease.
Good point. I've got the barrel going fully into the frame. The last dozen turns or so are stiff. Too stiff to turn in by hand. Lapping compound could do the trick. Wish I had thought of it.
I've got the tap coming now. I guess we'll see how things go when it gets here.
