Just picked up a 14-2 with the 2.25" barrel. I'm in love with this thing! It feels great and looks great. The only thing I don't like about it is the barrel length. The 2.25" barrel definitely has its place, but I want a 4" or 6" for normal plinking and maybe dabble in a bit of hunting with it. Nothing else came with the gun. What do I need to get a new barrel on there? Should I be looking at a factory barrel or one of the EWK's? Any help and guidence is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Welcome, nice 14-2 that you picked up. If you want to remove the barrel, I definitely recommend buying a barrel wrench from EWK, they are very nice. There is all kinds of info here on DWF, I think there is a tutorial in FAQ's about changing barrels. You can find 14-2 barrels on Gunbroker occasionally, you have to watch for them. There is a 6" one on now http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=235406902

Thanks lonwolf for the info. Will 15-2 barrels fit the 14-2 models? It is my understanding the the only difference between the 2 is that the 15-2 has adjustable sights, but I may be wrong.
Also, what barrel wrench should I get from EWK. He has a couple on there and they all look the same to me.
Thanks

Welcome and yes Nice 14-2. On the 15-2 ba's yes you can use them though you need to change the front sight as the 15's are higher EWK has had the conversion sights. I like the 14-2 and have used the 15-2 ba's, barrels will be the same as well as nut shroud is the only difference.

The 14-2 is the service revovler versus the 15-2 being the target. The difference is obviouos in that the 14-2 has a simple fixed rear groove sight, while the 15-2 has the fully adjustable rear sight. Because of how the rear sights differ the 15-2 shroud will throw off verticle sighting unless you use the "conversion sight" available from EWK.
Long distance target and hunting will probably be .. challenging without a proper adjustable rear sight. However, you could buy a 6" or even 8" shroud and barrel and attach a scope. No front sight needed and no dependence on the rear sight. There you go; a compact carry when you want it and a hunter when you need that! DW delivers!
You want the small frame barrel wrench from EWK. I would also pop for a (one or more) of his barrel nuts. If you do no have the allen wrenches and gauge, then get that as well... $7 well spent.

The vent rib is required for a "clamp on" mount, otherwise you need to drill and tap the shroud and mount the rings. Actually, this might be your best course of action, for a couple of reasons:
1) Mounting rings on the shroud will keep your scope lower (the clamp on mounts add height, bulk, weight, and cost). This keeps your scope closer to the bore axis with less parallax effect
2) Your scope will retain "zero" very effectively since it is firmly mounted to the shroud. Removing and re-installing a clamp on mount may introduce a bit of variance, but the shroud with a mounted scope will lock into place very consistently every time.
3) The standard (non-vent) shrouds normally sell for a bit less on auctions
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

.
First, for purposes of full disclosure, the GB (Gunbroker) listing referenced above by lonwolf93 above is mine.
I think you could do well getting a barrel from: the factory; a used one from this forum or an auction site like GB; or one from EWK. The choice may depend on how closely you want to match your frame (and cost). You'll notice that you have 2 lines "rolled" into your Model 14 shroud. The two lines generally means that the shroud is a Monson, MA piece. When they moved production to the Palmer location (or shortly thereafter is the question?) they dropped the first line and only rolled one line into the shroud. Finally, when production was moved to Norwich, the shroud markings became Laser Etched, so there are "no ridges around the indentations".
As far as cost goes, I emailed Priscilla (CZ-DW factory) in February and her reply was "The cost for the 6" assembly is $304.00. There may other fees from our gunsmith for the different blueing type" [sic]. Used Gunbroker prices are typically significantly less than factory prices, though I just saw a Monson 8" 15-2 shroud go for $352 or
depending on your viewpoint. I don't give out reserve prices, but I can say my Model 14 BA reserve is significantly less than $300 or $350
.
Note that my BA (Barrel Assembly) is SATIN. I am not sure if all Model 14s were made in Satin or if there are also some high gloss blue ones (which along with SS is what we mostly see in the DW revolvers). Maybe somebody on the board can help out on that one.
Again, welcome. The is a great board with great people. Not many trolls around here....
