I was as usual window shopping today at the local pawn store and what do I see but a Dan Wesson 6" pork chop. Having owned one in the 80's I couldn't resist  looking at it. Now I own it, oh yeh it was unfired still had the paperwork from 1981 only thing that keeps me from jumping up and down is it has fixed sights but then so did the one I owned before. Now I'm torn should I shoot it or not. And where can I get a feeler gage for it, it has the wrench with caps.

I think it needs oil and to be used. What do you think.

Good find! Personally, I shoot all my guns, rare or not. Any automotive store has a set of feeler gauges you could use to set the gap at .006"

I'm curious about your dated paperwork...is it a sales receipt that says 1981? The reason I'm wondering is that the Porkchop guns were made from 1970 to 1975(ish). So that would mean that it took a half dozen years for that gun to be sold.

Here's a good article that Jody scanned for us, that helps explain the timetable on these.

I'm with IHMSA, if I don't shoot it, I don't own it.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Its the letter of Congratulations! You've chosen the best.  Dated April 1, 1981.

As soon as I figure how to post pictures I will add them.

Maybe I'm miss labeling it as it doesnt have the part that hangs down from the shrowd it just isnt a full under lug.

You're definitely mislabeling;  the pork chop has an extension that fits in front of the frame to the triggerguard.  What you have is most probably a later model 14.  What barrel length does it have?

6" barrel - serial 33716X must have been a 81 model, I'm glade it doesn't have the flat front. They just didn't look as good to me. Laugh
