So I have pretty bad... ok not that bad. I don't really want more guns I want my gun to be just like I want it. So I found a beater... but paid well over beater prices $270-
Above- The gun has an overall fair appearance. 4" VH BA with yellow insert.
Above- this is why the gun did not make GB.. it was a pack and he sold all the other BA's.
That barrel nut is really awful.
Above adn the grip screw... well, is now in the trash.
Above and the cylinder stop is gone! but the cylinder does not fall out as reported by some. The wear ring is actually pretty slight. This gun has not been shot much. Basically its just been neglected and allowed to get surface rust.
Above- better shot of that troublesome barrel nut. Thats gonna be a chore.
This is the second gun I have gotten with rust under the rubber grips... If I have to buy $100 wood grips from LB for every gun .. I will.. I am not storing my guns with rubber grips ... you just can't do that down here in MS.
Ok so I have directions to go...
one spend just a few bucks (new barrel nut and stop and screw) and sell the gun. It has very good lock up. The function is tight and crisp. I would probably drop a spare 6" VH I have on it and keep the 4".
Two: part it mostly out.. I want the crane and cylinder for a moon clip set up.. springs for my wifes gun.. and barrel as it is the only 4" VH I have ( or I could sell the BA). I already have a spare set of hammer/trigger. But with these I could have them plated or something.
I would love comments on all the above.

This.
You can buy a cylinder/crane for much less (for your conversion), and why put used springs in your wife's gun?
Have it re-blued? Try your hand at Dura Cote? See just how far a good cleanup will take it?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I agree with the general concensus so far...give that poor mistreated DW some lovin' & I bet it will treat you good. The rust under the grips doesn't appear too deep from here, more like surface rust. Easily buffed off. I bet that a nice Dura Cote would make that thing look like... ... yep. Of course, you'll wanna replace those two rounded-out side plate screws while you're at it. Man, that poor thing sure landed in the hands of an idiot, didn't it??
The barrel nut is an easy fix & at least the previous owner didn't bugger up the end of the shroud during his ham-fisted attempt at barrel removal.

Okay guys, maybe my eye-sight is going but that isn't a VH shroud it's a Heavy. I think the heavy shrouds are pretty cool looking and you don't see many of them (if you want to sell it send me a note ).
I think it would look pretty cool with that matte black finish like the AGS has...

I have broken the barrel nut… its starting to look real bad. Not sure how to snag the peices parts and pull them out. Pretty sure I have borked the barrel at this point.

Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.

I vote for a restore!
You should have seen the last 15-2 I saw locally at a pawn shop. Major pitting under the grips, along with the barrel, and the shroud had a couple of rust spots on it. There was a giant gouge on the sideplate, and there was rust all over the frame. The guy at the pawn shop offered it to me at a decent price, but when I opened it up, I passed on it, as the insides were rusted together to the point rust flew out when I dry fired it a couple of times, and it had about a 50 pound trigger on it.
I just got a super nice 15-2 4" VH for $407 shipped and transferred. Other than one scratch on it, where the ejector hit it, it's almost perfect. I'm going to take it apart tonight and clean it up and it should be good to go.

Thanks all...
LB that trick worked pretty jim dandy!!! Unfortuately between the old owner and myself I marred up the inside of the shroud a bit. Barrel is trashed.
Yes it is a Heavy with no vent... woot my first one.
So.. there is a gun show this week end... I can try and get it leaned up in time, but I am not hopeful that I can get a decent price locally.
Well I am in a good position either way!
