Just got a Monson 22, 6" barrel...haven't even fired it yet, but I'm in love

the rear sight blade is a little loose...how do I tighten it to stop the wiggle?

Also, how do I disassemble for deep cleaning?  Just take off side plate?  wnything to watch out for when I do that?

Finally, any other advice on care and use of the DW 22 would be welcomed!

Stevie, welcome to DWF, when you have a chance, please visit our New Members area and tell us more about you, and post some pictures of your Model 22. You might be interested in this topic:

In addition to disassembly, it includes some good tuning and action cleanup tips.

Any DW revolver can run a tighter Barrel/cylinder gap that the recommended .006", many of us find accuracy improvement from a tighter B/C gap. Be sure to check the gap all the way around the cylinder, and set your gap on the tightest chamber, there can be some fluctuation chamber to chamber.

I have replaced several of my rear sights with the Millett rear, I especially like the white rear outline

I have found that .22 lr pistols (and my 722 is no exception) are pretty ammuntion sensitive when it comes to accuracy. I buy different brands 100-200 at a time and test them for group size from a rest at 50 feet.

Last and best tip on taking care of your DW- Shoot it a LOT, it's what it was made to do.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome to the forum!  the DW22 is a great platform to shoot a million or so rounds through Laugh.  The sights have a little "play" in them if you use your fingers, but they should be still just sitting there.

Welcome Stevie.

My DW 722 is one of my favorite shooters.  I'm sure you will love yours.  Like Steve said, they are ammunition sensitive.  Take some time to test different brands and stay away from the high velocity stuff.  At least that's been my experience.

Enjoy.

I agree that I rarely shoot High Velocity in anything anymore (definitely not in my HS Victor). HV .22 lr will never cause any damage to a DW, but I find it to group much less consistently at the ranges I shoot, virtually always 50' for rimfire

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Good tip on the ammo....I shoot high velocity for two reasons - it is much easier to buy right now (shortage of other stuff, HV is $17 a brick of 500 at Bi-Mart), and I need it for my .22 conversion on my .45 Kimber 1911, the slide won't cycle with standard velocity....

In the Kimber and my Ruger .22 Model III Target, the high vel seems to group about the same as standard (I did try it), but maybe the Dan Wesson is different... I'll have to track std velocity some down and give it  a try to compare....

Welcome

The .22 is a ton of fun to shoot, especially in my 722. As the others said, try lots of different ammo, they are picky. I wouldn't worry about the loose sight unless you can tell it changes point of impact when moved.
