Just bought my first DW.  It shoots a lot nicer than I thought it would. I saw it at the LGS and had to have it.  Can anyone tell me more about it other than it's a model 15?  The serial number is 328731 and is stamped Dan Wesson Arms  Monson Mass., USA.  Thanks

Welcome to DWF.

The gun in your photo is a 14-2 (to be a Model 15-2 it needs to have adjustable rear sights).

From the S/n it is probably a 1981-82 gun.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I thought it was a 14-2.  I'll go back to the LGS and talk with them.  They have another one up there too. Maybe I'll have another one too.  Wife will throw me out.

Thank You for the welcome. Just got back from the gun store and straightened out the paperwork. I didn't come back with the other one.  If they would've taken my Ruger LCR in trade I'd have another DW.

...and that would have been a very good trade!

Welcome from the Bluegrass.  Good lookin shooter you picked up.  Didn't take long for the DWAS to get a hold of you huh?..   Once you get a feel for them in your hand and they go off and that bullet hits where you aim....whipping  goodluck

I know....I know. Had it at the range Sunday.  What a nice shooter.  I probably end up with another one.

When I shoot it I get a lot of ( I don't know if you call it blow by or gasses or soot) on the cylinder. I wipe the gun off and its pretty dirty. Some of the blueing is worn off on the cylinder where it meets the barrel. It's definitely from the gasses escaping. Is this normal?

Mine does this as well.  I need to wipe it before I put it back into the case.  Being new to revolvers, I assumed this is normal; though I am uncertain if it is just a DW trait or not

Yes, it's normal, and some ammo makes more of mess than others.  Have you checked your cylinder gap?

0.006 inches is the standard setting.  Some go closer with the possibility of the cylinder binding after shooting a lot (heat expansion).  You might find this interesting...

Right! .006.  That's what I meant.  Just making sure you knew. Great article too.  Know I'll go by a .06, I mean .006 feeler gauge to check it.

middlecalf - that's an interesting article.  It would be interesting to see similar chronograph testing done with all the different length barrels.
