Hi all. I am new to the Dan Wesson world but not new to pistols or shooting, I have had several revolvers in the past but never a DW.

I have been offered one ... from my research so far I believe to be a 715 from the Monson era ... I'll attach pics.

I do not have access to the gun, just pics at this point.

What I am wondering is what kinds of things I should be on the lookout for ... common flaws, red flags or weak points ... parts that could fail or are often tweaked by amateurs ... stuff like that.

The guy wants $500 ... is that a reasonable price?

Thanks

Pretty good price.

I always recommend THIS for revolver check out

And, again, I think that is a pretty decent deal if it's the gun you want.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

This should help you out.  On DWs- if you have the opportunity to remove the barrel; do it to ensure no issues with a stuck one.  Price seems fine if all checks out.  Let us know!

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

CTG=Cartridge.

BTW, a real nice clean up for stainless guns is a light polishing with Mothers Mag Wheel polish

I'd say it's a fair price. Hard to find it for less, especially if you want it now. Values vary with the part of the country you're in, but they are not going down. Definitely not a ripoff. It looks good. If it checks outbuy-now.

IMHO that is a great price. The barrel assembly would sell for over $300 on ebay. The gun for 700  on Gunbroker.  It looks lightly used. They are incredibly strong guns and I would wager there is nothing major wrong with it, if anything. BUT, if you buy it you will probably develope an obsessive compulsive disorder known as Dan Wesson Acquisition Syndrome, or DWAS for short. Your life as you know it will be over, for the better. You will crave all things dan wesson, hang out here on the forum instead of those other things you do on the internet and buy as many Dan Wesson revolvers as you can afford instead of buying plastic  and aluminum guns or wasting money on girls (Just kidding Dear ). Hope you buy it!!!

I would pay $500 for a 715 without even holding it.  As mentioned above if the gun is a bust it is worth more in parts.  I dream to find a stainless Dan under auction price amounts.

Haha ... funny, I had thought of that ... I have a cabinet full of another brand that induces the same type of syndrome ...

And thanks for the help!

I did it ... bought this gun this morning ... will take a few days for the transfer and shipping ... should arrive by the end of next week all going well ... excited to get my hands on it and take her to the range.

It did not come with the barrel wrench or spacer so I'll have to pick those up ... anything else I should be thinking of getting at the same time?

Thanks for the information and encouragement from all here ... I'm sure I'll have lots of questions ...

You might look for the "small parts" assortments that turn up on Gunbroker a lot. They usually go for $15-20 and can be a real handy thing to have when you buy a used gun, even one that looks great. You get all the springs, the ball bearing that the cylinder is held by, and the sideplate screws. I lucked out one time I bought one and there were two bolts in it, along with the normal stuff, for $16. One word of caution. If you buy another grip for your gun, sometimes you will find that the screw that holds the grip onto the tang is too long, if it is, the gun will either not cock in SA at all, or, as I found out the hard way, it will have a hair trigger and the slightest bump to the gun will cause it to fire. Just check it out before you load it and you'll be fine.

Good advice, DW used two different length grip screws
