I just want to say Hi to everyone on this site, I am a new member and just put my first Dan Wesson in Layaway.

I was at a local pawn shop yesterday (Saturday 5/26), I was getting ready to buy a S&W 686 anyway but not quite yet. I was looking to see what kind of 45's they had in stock when I noticed a Dan Wesson 8" 15-2 with the heavy barrel. I almost bought a Dan Wesson several years ago but did not bought a S&W instead. Dan Wesson always had been on my mind though but kind of for got about them after a while. This gun just pop out of the case, it was a beauty. I really did not have the money for it so I left the shop and me and the wife started home. Half way home I told her I was going back to the shop and layaway the Dan Wesson. Turned around and when I got there it had been moved but not purchased. I asked to see it and really surprised at how sound the gun was. Lock up was good and tight, no front to rear movement on the cylinder, and when looked in the barrel the rifling was very deep and crisp. The finish had some small handling scuffs but it looked pretty good, I would say around 90 - 95 %. Bluing was very shiny  and well blued. I can not wait to get this gun out of Layaway, I have never handled the Dan Wesson revolver before, just felt goon in the hand and felt heavy and good for target use and hunting if wanted. I did not even ask if it had the wrench or box with it, I will have to call and find out. If not I will be buying a wrench off GunBroker or eBay. When I get it out I will take pictures of it to post here.

Thanks for listening to me ramble.dwf-sign

Congrats on a great gun. I really like my 15-2, also an 8" barrel...much better than a Smith any day. And welcome to the dwf-sign !

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on what sounds like a nice purchase. You won't regret it. If you do need a wrench, etc., I recommend EWK Arms. (see side bar to the right) You can obtain all the basics you need for less than the ultimate cost from any auction. If your eyes are old like mine, you will also love his fiber optic front sights.

welcome

I have not found any really bad write ups on the Dan Wesson. The only thing I have seen is they get out of time on some of them. Is there really a negative to the Dan Wesson? I think from what I've read they are like tanks.

Greetings from Gary in AZ.  Congrats, once you get it home you'll have to post some cool-pics.  Funny you mention the 686, the second gun I ever owned (first one I purchased) was a 686 6" which I loved.  But since finding my DW 715, I find that I want to shoot the 686 less and less.  In fact I'm working out a trade with a buddy of mine who wants the 686 'cuz I just don't need it anymore.

Personally, I think you made a great decision!
