New member here. Spend a lot of time on Glocktalk, but decided to join here to ask the experts some questions.
Revolver is a beauty. From what I understand, it's the 15-2 VH. Have not shot it yet, but looking forward to a little range time soon.
Trying to figure out a couple things.
For the kind of shape it's in it was either well cared for or reblued. Anything I should look for on this? The GT people seem to think it's original.
Also trying to figure out a mfg date. 125XXX S/N. Can't find anything published on that.
Trying to post pictures without any luck. The insert/edit image no workie.
Thanks!
Your 15-2 is probably original. Very few Dans get refinished. Most have scratches on the sideplate from the extractor star. Except for that, Dans are pretty durable.
The frame of a Dan Wesson is investment cast. It will be a different shade than the shroud, sideplate, cylinder and latch. It can be a purplish hue to deep blue but in strong light or sunlight the slightest difference will be noticable. If refinish there would not be a difference readily apparent.
I would date your gun to late 1977 or early 78.
Beautiful. perhaps not shot since the factory. Be careful to keep your fingers pushing against the cylinder to keep it from closing when ejecting cases.
Look at the left side of the sideplate under the cylinder where it touches the frame. You can see the different hues of the frame and other parts. Definitely original bluing. When it is more plum. Colored we call it Barney, after the purple dinosaur.. It happens to old Ruger and is highly treasured. Some Dan fans abhore it, others don't mind it. As long as it isn't orangey, pinkish or mottled I can live with it but don't love it.
Evidently the silica (sand) in the investment cast mold imparts silica to the surface of the steel and it affects the bluing. I suspect new molds have a greater affect than well used ones. It is never seen on shrouds or sideplates but sometimes on cylinders.

No idea how I missed this thread, but...what a SWEET looking 15-2VH!
I agree with the GT peeps, that bluing looks original. Ole Dog surmised that it may be unfired from the factory, and he may be right. A couple of the cylinder face & recoil shield will help decide roughly how many rounds may have been down that little pipe.
