Sorry Adam12, we seem to be talking past each other. The grip mounted on your gun in the above pic is a DW factory Sacramento grip. It has finger grooves and is smaller at the bottom than at the top. If you curl your hand with trigger finger extended, you'll notice the gap at the top by your thumb is larger than at the bottom; this grip fills those gaps. It is fairly narrow and the finish is smooth. The story I "kind-of sort-of" remember hearing is that a subset of the Sacramento Police Department was involved somehow in designing the style, hence the name.
DW made several styles of grips. If you didn't like any of them they would sell you a blank and you could carve your own style.
Once upon a time most LE carried revolvers; S&W, Colt, Ruger, etc., and some DW. As a side note: there were several cop shows that had DW revolvers in them; Lady Blue and Dan Tanner come to mind.
